Hi everyone great community btw.

Just wondered if anyone else ran with there dog, my cocker spaniel has been on every run so far, he loves it, not sure he thinks it’s running 😂we’ve only had one accident and I didn’t even fall over him, tripped off the curb.

Going to do week 5 run 3 tomorrow I hope

Hi yes I have been taking my Dobermann with me since I started c25k. So far she’s not needed to break into a trot.. week 5 just done she had to walk a wee bit quicker 😉

Hahaha, my dog has been known to walk next to me too. Oh the shame! 😅😅😅

I’m currently doing C25K aweigh my daughter alongside my running, and our puppies (9 months) are loving it... sadly they can’t do distance running yet or they’d be with me for 10k in the morning.

Enjoy that run tomorrow... it’s wonderful.

You have PUPPIES UNM? What breed? Why are there no pics!? 😍😍😍😍😍

They are Chinese Crested (powderpuff) and there’s not too many photos because we should have named them Chaos and Mayhem... never still! They’re from a litter of 4 and both siblings and parents are hairless. Our relative who breeds them said he can always find buyers for the hairless ones but struggles to sell the powderpuffs... we said we’d have one if the next litter produced one. Poppy (mayhem) was born and we got a call to say we had a dog... 3 hours later her brother Simba (chaos) arrived. We got photos and made little miss UNM choose when she got home from school the next day... of course we’d already decided to buy both. Off for my run soon... might well find a pic from when they were tiny and a now picture to collage for the report... first 10k of the year.

Edit: this very in telling person was looking at the wrong week on his plan... 5.5 miles today, 6.25 is next week 🤣🤣

My Border Terrier was meant to be my running partner, but doesn't run past 8mins 🙈, and stops at every tree to scent it.....plus he would always choose to answer the call of nature when Laura would say "run", and running with a poo bag isn't ideal (I'm not one of those folks who hangs poo bags on trees and bushes to collect later🤢........ that is one of my pet hates. I don't understand those who don't bother to pick up their dogs mess at all....... I think it's really inconsiderate to others and a health hazard)......apologies rant over 😬

He always limbers up when he sees me in lycra, and I feel so guilty when I close the door and see his sad face 🥺 I can't have him run off lead either, if he spots a deer, a hare, a pheasant..... anything with feathers or fur he'd be off like a shot (would be a good workout, but I can't run fast, I'd worry I'd lose him), so alas no poochy on my runs 🙁

Arghhh don’t get me started on negligent non poo picker-uppers. Just why? 😡 It gives all us responsible dog owners a bad name. 😩

I am one of those people that run/ shuffle with the poobag until I find a bin which is less than ideal and why i often go out more own than with my dog now 😀

Yep me too. Once tied the poo bag to his harness though.... he was not impressed. Anyway apologies for bringing potty talk into the forum 😆👋

There have been plenty of people who have done all 27 runs of C25K with their dog.

I am not sure how many runners run a full 10K or longer distance running with their dog, I wonder if any runner has ran a half marathon the whole way with their dog.

I only run beyond 5-6k with Flossie if she can go off the lead. I personally don’t think it’s fair to have a dog run in what is essentially a straight line without the ability to stop and sniff etc. I guess Canicross is different as it’s a sport and dogs are trained for it though. 🐾🐾🐾

I started C25K with my cocker who is in my profile pic. I ditched him around week 5 as he was only 10 months and I was nervous about running any distance before 12months. I thought I would run with him but I’m now training to run 10k. In the early weeks of C25K I was training him to run with me and would say ‘Run Willie’ as we passed another dog hence my profile name. It was hilarious as I wasn’t really running but being dragged into other dogs/people for him to say hello. I’m in awe that you’ve trained your cocker to run with you. Enjoy week 5 run 3 🏃‍♀️🐕

I haven’t got a dog but cheekychipmunks runs with her lab, Floss and I met them both at parkrun a few times.

I believe there is a running group called cannicross

Hi J111eth , as Dexy5 mentioned, I run with my dog as often as I can. Off the lead if possible, but at Parkrun too (which we’re both missing) 🏃‍♀️🐾 She accompanied me all through C25K, and it was lovely having a running buddy. ❤️

I don’t do Canicross, but lots do and it sounds tons of fun. I simply have a hands-free lead which clips around my waist and it’s loose enough for Floss to change sides if she wants to without me having to faff with the lead.

I highly recommend continuing running with your spaniel! 🐾🐾🐾

I started C25K with my doggle Bonnie who’s a springer but as the runs got longer I couldn’t really keep an eye on her any more - she’s always off sniffing out ballies 🎾 in bushes. Also I started on the golf course in lockdown so she could do her own thing and now rudely it’s full of golfers again 🤷🏼‍♀️so I’ve taken to the pavements

I’d love to take her with me but she’d be stopping every other minute to sniff every interesting scent and dragging me into blackberry bushes!! She’s also getting on a bit (12) and I worry about her keeping going even at my 🐌 pace

Hugo enjoys the runs fortunately he’s quite well trained so doesn’t stop for sniffing etc and with his endless energy I think it keeps me going sometimes

Not with my dog, he's ancient and prefers sleeping. But I've taken my son's girlfriend's dog out a couple of times when she's stayed over. He's a jack russell type and rather lively. A 5 mile run settles him down quite well! 😄

We run as a family, me, my husband, 13 yr old daughter, 10 yr old son and our Border Terrier. I'm sure we look hilarious. We are Wk 5. We're lucky to be in the New Forest so she can be off lead.

I can wholeheartedly recommend canicross if anyone is interested! My super fit( course I’m not jealous) brother does it! He regularly runs 10k (still not jealous) with his two dogs, one of which is now 12, the dogs love it and it’s also great training for dogs, it’s a rapidly growing sport here in the uk - please check it out!

Ps the runs are always in some beautiful parts of the uk!

Yep, my giant schnauzer and mini schnauzer come on every run. They get excited as soon as the armband comes out!

Just the let you all know me and Hugo managed week 5 run 3, thought I was going to have to stop at about 8 minutes but we pushed through and only went and did it, huge grin for me

Definitely not for me. Wouldn't be able to concentrate on the running and on them. I've been doing the program in my garden and had to scatter feed while going round to keep them occupied (and calm) to stop him barking and her dropping toys in front of me. It was becoming more difficult by week 6 when more running involved. So switched to frozen kongs - peace.

I often start my morning running with my dog and consider it a perfect start of the day because I combine the pleasant with the useful. In general, I like animals a lot and for this reason, I now do veterinary courses from veterinaryschoolsu.com/vet-... and I can't wait to finish and be able to apply in reality everything I learned there. It is not an easy profession at all because animal life is in our hands but I get a lot of pleasure from it and that is what matters.

yes!! Hence my profile name “Packrunner”. My “pack” are my 2 Jack Russells Dot and Solo. I travel and stay away a lot for work, and when I am home, I just want to spend every second with them, including my runs.
