My first 5k! Consolidation 7

Well, I managed my first 5k today, 2 weeks after graduating. Without really trying I’m getting faster, 7.14 mins/ k average today and did 5.14k in 37minutes. I’ve gradually increased the distance over the consolidation and have resisted the temptation to push to 5k too soon. I still don’t particularly enjoy running at the time, but do get a definite high at the end.

My new target is now to manage 5k in 35 minutes, not sure I’ll manage it in 30. I’ve got no interest in going longer. My route along the canal is 2.5k before I reach a tunnel so it fits nicely running all the way back now. I’ve ditched the app and just get half km prompts from Strava.

Couldn’t have managed without all the support here so thank you everyone

Well done.

Slowing down to the recommended easy conversational pace makes it more achievable and for most, more enjoyable.

The guide to post C25k running does recommend that you should not be trying to get faster on every run.........

Hi, I’m not particularly trying to go faster, it just seems to be happening although not every run. I don’t seem to have any concept of speed though as I thought I was really slow today!! Maybe that will come

You will naturally get faster as you get more miles on your legs, although it is not an ever upward curve, but the guide suggests that if you do wish to get faster, that you spend 70-80% of your time deliberately running slowly, to build stamina.

Brilliant news! Well done, you! 👏👏👏
