Compression leggings...discuss!

Honestly, what do they do? Do I need them? I do like a bit of kit and have been eyeing up some spendy Sweaty Betty leggings (have a 20% code if anyone wants it) as a reward for having completed W7. Also seen some with mesh (in appropriate places, obviously), which look like they might be cooler for hotter days. Any advice? Thank you!

I use compression top and leggings as a base layer in the coldest weather.

The compression is meant to improve blood flow to the surface of your skin and so improve recovery times........it can also keep you warmer in cold weather.

I wouldn't dream of wearing them in the current weather, preferring something more airy and open to the breezes.

I do know a life long runner who at 70 suddenly started getting calf cramps which stopped him from running for nearly a year, despite physio intervention. He cured it by wearing compression socks for every run and for a few hours afterwards and is now knocking out 5k times that most twenty five year olds would be proud of.

I also bought some compression socks after an Achilles problem, but I cannot honestly say they worked, because I was also doing plenty of stretching and strengthening at the time.

Hi,

I have compression running pants from :

ZXU - and have found them really beneficial.

I would like to buy a new set and I’m willing to wait until I can buy them in a running or sports shop . Here’s the link . If it works !

Thanks! I think I was partly confused about what their purpose was really.

I guess the best way to look at it as to what is the purpose is the socks, which are essentially more constructed versions of what you get when you've been in hospital 🏥. You tend get them after an op to improve blood flow and to stop any nasty problems. People are also known to use them on long flights. The rest essentially does the same for the rest of the body. I find the tops a little to inflexible tried a few but leggins and socks are a must for me personally

Thank you, that helps my understanding quite a bit.

No good advice about compression stuff; but love Sweaty Betty! Really flattering, gorgeous patterns, practical ‘proper’ running gear and great quality. Just try and wait til the sales 😂😉🏃‍♀️

Thanks! I have a 20% code (happy to share if anyone wants it) for first time purchases. It was more so I am sort of between sizes. I would like to think that is from shaping up from running! 🙃 So am not sure if should size down or not?

"Mesh in appropriate places" 😂😂🤣 that made me laugh out loud! I know, what's with the mesh everywhere?!? I'm no help because I was thinking of getting some but I dont know much about them and everything...so I'll learn with you! 😁

I know, what is it with mesh everywhere 😲?! From research on their own website, a really good summary of running products Erica Davies did on her Instagram page and blog (saved in her highlights on stories where she talked to several fitness gurus), people here, reviews, and friends, it sounds like the Sweaty Betty Power Workout leggings, in whatever length you fancy, and with or without tastefully located mesh (🤣), is the way forward. Supposed to be insanely comfortable, practical and flattering. The mesh, from what I can glean, just might be better for warmer days, ventilation...??? I have a 20% off code if you need. Its POWER20. Think it just works on first time offers.
