W7 Run 2 in the wind and rain : )

Enjoyed this run today although found myself laughing at running in a Force10! and sleet ( felt like a 10!!) Taken on lots of advice from the various posts - didn't put my distance timer on until I completed the warm up to give a better sense of running distance and also for the first time did after run stretches - now feel more achey than ever before but embracing the pain and thinking its all for my good . Slow walking for sure tomorrow. Had been feeling a bit miserable not being able to see my family in Scotland for another couple of months after last nights announcement so was a good way to get out of the house, take a break from work and face the elements which really helped. Still cant quite believe I'm at this point and talking about going out for a run - still feels like someone else is in my head saying these things and it's not really me !!! Here's to next run and the better weather : )

I’m starting week 7 tomorrow and it’s my birthday on Sunday. I’ve got the opposite problem to you- can’t visit family in England including three young grandchildren and also week old granddaughter who is our daughter’s first child. Planning a zoom birthday celebration at present and hubby is making a cake. It’ll be the strangest birthday I’ve ever had

Happy Birthday for Sunday !!! That's tough not seeing the new baby and the wee ones : ( . My plan is to have my bag packed and get in the car and drive North whenever possible ! Enjoy your cake .

Love that you said you laughed at the run in the bad weather. Brilliant attitude . Had my run cut before I started due to work commitments. Starting to get frustrated with lockdown measures now too. Well done for getting out and smashing it. Heres to more.

And happy birthday for next week

Many thanks !! Think it might have been manic laughing passing the cows on Town Moor in Newcastle with no one else in sight - so funny was almost stationary at one point due to the wind buffeting me … first run in the not so nice weather so new things learnt as well . Appreciate your encouragement .

What's a bit of cold and rain when your a northerner 😄 haha. Its 90% of our weather. It can only be better from that run. Enjoy

So true - ha ha ha - don't know what the fuss is - I worked in Kazakhstan and Siberia and it was minus 50 - but I wasn't trying to run there - too slippy !

A lesson to all of us southern softies!! Once I'd run in wind, hail & rain it strengthened my resolve to get out there whatever the weather (though not sure about snow & ice!)

That sounds bracing. I find doing the exercises after running really helpful- especially for loosening hamstrings and thigh muscles. I think it helps me recover more quickly (&, eventually, less painfully). I know what you mean about missing family. My granddaughter is changing so much & I miss the hugs with her and my daughter terribly. But I think running will help with keeping minds as well as bodies healthy.

I think starting running has been the main silver lining in this awful virus time. How sweet will all of our reunions be when the time comes - limitless hugs from your family I'm sure : )

I agree, felt like I was running in a hurricane and going backwards. My average pace paid the price but it was still worth the struggle.

Well done - we beat the elements !!

Well done, glad you enjoyed it despite the weather, and glad it’s helping your soul in these strange times x

Thank you - my preferred activity/default is coffee and cake with friends so this is way way better for my health. All the best with your running too.

Me too, felt like I was running on the spot a few times as the wind was so strong I just couldn’t move forward! I did run 1 of week 7 this morning, can’t believe I finished it in those conditions! It really does lift the spirits though doesn’t it 😃

For sure great feeling finishing any of the sessions but especially windy ones !!

Impressive and inspirational attitude Eveb1! I did W6 R3 yesterday in strong cold wind (by southern Kentish standards) - had been dreading it and nearly turned back home when Laura said 'off you go' for the TWENTY FIVE minute run. But remembered niko niko pace and kept going and even did an extra 60 secs to prove i wasn't defeated - all at a very very modest pace but still ... and it is helping with the lockdown blues.

First I have heard of niko niko so thank you for helping me learn about something new and also realising that slow is good ! Impressed with your extra 60 seconds too - at the point where the coach says give it an extra boost I am not even thinking that might be an option … maybe next week !!

Running in the wind and rain/sleet makes me laugh too...and feel alive and invigorated, and a little bit crazy for being out there at all!

Oh, and your definitely a runner, there's no doubt about that...people who dabble are far more "fair weather" about these things.

Well done 😊👍

Thank you I love the sound of that!!! Well done for finishing the app must be a great feeling !

Thanks, I finished around a year ago and have carried on since, as many do...after consolidating for a while and reaching 5K many decide to give Bridge to 10K a go as another focus!

Sounds scary now but we may see you there in the future, no pressure 😉

I can aspire to this for sure !! Would never have thought I would have managed this so far so am definitely saying maybe and not never :)

We're all the same, all started with C25K and struggled with the 1st run and I for one could never imagine really being able to run for half an hour.

It's certainly a challenge but as you've seen so far, the programme really works and it's very rewarding to reach your goal when you've worked so hard to get there.

I look forward to seeing your Graduation post in a few weeks 👍

Thank you !! I did the Great North Run a few years ago but fast walked most of it, I was also 2 stone lighter . I have another place for September so hoping to be in a much better place by then and possibly even running part of it . Finding all the encouragement on this site really lovely - very much appreciated :)

Run46 profile image

That's a few months yet, if it's the 10K you've entered, you may well surprise yourself and run it all/most of it.

Let's hope the races are safely back by September!

These forums are amazing, so all inclusive as we all started from nothing so we all get it 👍

Oh well done for running in those conditions! You do know now though that you never have any excuse cos if you can run in that you can run in anything!

I feel for you not being able to see family but it’s great you now have running to help you through
