Finished W5R3 but feeling strangely disheartened?

Hi all, I just completed W5R3! I know I should be feeling really proud of myself (and in some ways I am) but also it was the slowest run and the shortest distance I’ve covered for some weeks. 5 weeks ago I struggled with just 1 minute running so I know this is a huge improvement.. but also as I was running I found myself feeling embarrassed about how slowly I was running? I could definitely have walked at a similar speed if not faster.

Just wondering if anyone else has felt like this? I know speed etc will come with time and I’m just being irrational, but I can’t help it.

Hi ya, a huge well done. I don’t worry about times etc. I just think about building on my stamina. I will think about times once I graduate and set myself little goals to start off with 👍.

Really sorry you felt like this when you should be celebrating 20 minutes of running! 👍 🙂 You are right that your speed will improve later and were right to take this run steadily. Stay positive and look at what you have achieved in such a short time🙂👍

Oh no! Turn a happy cartwheel & celebrate your success- you did so well. 😄

You are absolutely right when you say speed will come later- carry on at a happy, comfy pace & you will find that your happy pace will speed up over time.

Maybe not measure how fast you are going for now? It doesn’t matter & if it is robbing you of a sense of achievement you could leave it for 2 or3 months. 😄

Thanks very much, that’s a good idea I think I will try to do that 😊

I also feel slightly embarrassed about being so slow but I tell myself at least I'm out running unlike some couch potatoes!

That’s very true - we are out there moving which is more than a lot of people do

You have just passed an amazing milestone in your running journey.

Well done.

If I were you I would ditch the tracking app and relax and enjoy it.

Remember, the Olympics have been delayed, so you have plenty of time to get up to speed.

As the running times get longer we slowed down even more so we could get to the end of the time and one day we realised our slow was faster than our fast used to be and we really aren’t fast

You may find this also and never worry about running slow you are building stamina for longer runs

You should definitely be feeling proud of yourself. I keep reading that slow running is the best kind, helping you to build stamina and avoid injury, and that we should all be slow running for at least the first year. So keep that in mind, don’t beat yourself up about speed and just enjoy the huge progress you’ve made.
