Failing on run 3 week 8

After run 1 and 2 of week 8 I was excited about completing the week and moving into graduation week.

I've enjoyed the last 2 runs, even though the last 5 mins of the 28mins has been a bit of a struggle. However, I've now attempted run 3 twice and failed both times (the only run in this programme where I have ever had to admit defeat) from the start of the run I've felt uncomfortable, my ankles have hurts, as have knees and I've suffered with stitch.

Was has happened to me?

Any advice gratefully recieved

Take some rest days Eboo that stitch..... Slow it right down and get some air in those lungs whilst running and try to stay hydrated. What surface are you running on? Grass may help your joints it's softer

Never use the fail word here on C25K, give yourself a few extra days off running, drink plenty of water the day before you run and a few hours before you run, run it again a little slower than you did today, hopefully you will complete that 3rd 28 minute run of week 8

Take 3 days off. Go on walks and smile at the sun. Make sure you are really well hydrated all the time and slow right down

When you hit ‘the wall’ slow down even more 👍😊👍

You have done that duration twice so that is not the issue.

It may be your preparation. Everything going on in our lives can impact on our performance as a runner. Restedness, hydration and nutrition are at the top of my list of variables that need to be optimised to enable enjoyable running.

My guess, with your mention of stitch is that you were not running at a pace at which you could speak clear, ungasping sentences as you ran and maybe you had not taken on board between 2.5 - 3 litres of fluids in the 24 hrs preceding the run.

This post about hydration may help healthunlocked.com/couchto5... as it stresses the impact of hydration on every part of your body.

Have a couple of rest days, prepare well and give it another go at a nice steady pace.

You can do this.

You’ve received plenty of good advice already. You have prepared and are prepared for this run. Laura said if you need to quit, slow down instead. Endurance is more important than speed. I had an elderly gent and his dog pass me once, walking. We both had a good laugh.
