Best footware for a beginner.

Any advice on footware would be appreciated. I have not been running for ten years but do lots of walking. My concern is sore heels (policeman's heel) which I have had in the past.

Best go to a shop where they do gait analysis. Worth taking a worn pair with you, the wearing can provide them with information. You may have to book an appointment.

They will advise you on the shoes best for you.

Take your time, go there if you have~two hours, not to rush into a decision.

My advice is that you should invest in good shoes, starting at £100 a pair. If you are lucky, you can get away with less if you catch a nice reduction.

I bought my present pair £42, last pair, reduced from £86.

Don't buy the very cheap ones, they would not give you sufficient support.

This looks like sound advice. Thank you.

It's quite an outlay. You can run in anything that's safe and comfortable until about week 4. If you're still up for the challenge by then, go for it. Spending up to £100 on shoes certainly concentrates the mind!

I'm a sucker for shoes. I've yet to spend £100 but we'll see.

I've spent more than that on hiking boots, but I got a great pair of On Cloud running shoes for under £100 in the sales. There are bargains to be had, but get the best for you within your budget.

Worth back buying shoes on sales. A pair that is originally 120-130 can be bought for 80wish with some luck.

When I said £100, I meant the in-season price. 🏃🏻

Higher drops are better for heel problems. Look for at least 8mm drop 👍🏽 My old brooks were 12mm.

Thank you. I'm going to try all options so will take this on board.

I have to get low drop shoes as my knees have issues. So opposite to you. Getting 5mm stopped my problem instantly.
