Midlife crisis? What crisis?

Is it me or does a modern running shoe resemble a sports car? Or at least a racing bike?

After a year or so my Asics end up looking like as if they've been worn by a deranged horse so l went and got myself a new pair. Needed something to match my black, red lined basketball shorts, hence black shoes with red bits. Needs must. My orange/grey/black tech socks somehow fit the bill too.

In a way I'm glad I'm into this kinda thing rather than other affinities that plague men in the second part of their fifties like growing a ponytail and getting tattooed (thanks man but no), thinking that they still appeal to younger ladies (go away pops, take your meds and sleep), or acquire a two seater Italian car or at least a racing green Jag (I've always been into big German autos, ain't changing now).

Thankfully I'm more grounded hence I've decided to tackle a 50k run. Got the shoes, finally happy with my socks, stocked up on my trusted Tailwind and Collagen powders, figured out the routes so all l need to do is cover between 120-200km per month, running and cross training six days per week, and I'll get there. I mean, what could possibly go wrong, eh?

In theory they would look even better IN the sports car, but I'll leave that for another life.

I've just cut off my ponytail and cancelled the tattoo parlour. 🤣🤣🤣

Oddly enough, my midlife crisis resulted in me starting C25K. How boring eh?

But, that's a great looking pair of trainers! In fact, I quite fancy a pair of those myself

Hmmm new shirts or new trainers. 😁

Go for both. Think of all that money that you've saved by not buying an Italian sports car.

Once I've deducted all the woes from the list of men's midlife issues, ultra was all l was left with.

🤣. They’re almost named after a sports cars... GT-2000/2000GT en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyot...

Nearly bought a Porsche once, but realised I wasn’t old enough 🤣🤣

Happy running.

I imagine their designers trying to figure out how to colour and name the new shoe, and for whom. I then must have run past their window and they high fived each other.

I like how they market them as 'new'. They are exactly the same as my previous shoes and the ones before. They chucked in a bit of colour, and made the laces softer and more 'elastic', that's all. They also used some impressive technical language, none of which l understood. And the box looked jazzy as well. They read me like an open book, those rascals.

Nice kicks, mrrun. I wish you many happy miles in them. And that you outrun any impending midlife nonsense. 👍😁 Your 50k quest is admirable, and I have no doubt you’ll do it. Determined young man that you are. 😁 All the best and happy running!

Tbh, I don't really know what midlife crisis is. Probably a myth invented by the same guys who sold me the shoes. And the only reason I've gone for ultra is because the program has marathons as training runs. Training. Runs. So, I figured out if it's a training run it will probably be easier to cover it, right? Oh boy....lol...

Ha, same taste well in shoes any way, Asics red at the back fading to black at the front if that sounds right. As for getting old, mid life crises 10 years ago when I hit 40, bought a boat, decided to get the tattoo before I hit 50, the flag of the boat builder, long story. But the running, something I have to do for my health, this is the best way so far I have managed to do, and something I will stick at, have since the first london marathon had a dream to one day do it, might, and it is still a long way off, actually do it. There is a niggling thing that I have in my head that I will need to overcome first, as it is probably not possible, but that a long way off anyway. Sounds as though you could be a roll model for me, my dream car at the moment would be a nice big Mercedes estate(boat, remember), but am stuck with a Vauxhall company car.

Good luck with your 50k, read that bit twice, I am so far off that.

Mate, I couldn't run for 90 seconds in the beginning because of my nicotine filled body. Then you work it out, persist, push it, consolidate and do it. You can do a marathon if you want, really want to do a marathon. Commit, give yourself time and space, don't push it, don't rush, and it's doable. Not easy but doable.

Can't help regarding the wheels (yep, German estates are good) but would call for caution regarding the tattoos. One error and you'll look like a bad wet billboard. If you get it right though (but youth plays a nature's part in that) you could look like a million bucks. I'd say stick to your running.
