W7R3 πŸ‘πŸΌ OUTSIDE!!!!

Today was my first outdoor run and I’ve been so nervous about it as I thought perhaps I’d struggle with being so used to the treadmill. Well I did it! And not only that, I found it soooo much easier that the treadmill! Wow, just delighted. Started off at my friends pace but I actually found that to be too slow for me so she encouraged me to just run on. I even managed to increase the pace in the last minute like Laura suggests u can. Can’t believe when I come out of the gym I’m literally dripping in sweat and feel like I’ve worked super hard but don’t feel like I’ve even done my run today πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ I need a running belt or something though as found it a nuisance having my car keys bouncing in my pocket. Wow wow wow, I’m so pleased πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸΌ

Yes I think I’ll alternate between the treadmill and outdoors. I’ve signed up to my first 5k in March 😬 so I need to get used to running outside

Good for you. Sounds like you really enjoyed it.

I did contemplate buying a treadmill for the really awful weather when it comes. But I might just try and tough it out.

I just use the treadmill at the gym but honestly I’m surprised at how much easier this run felt! But great to be able to use the treadmill if it’s really nasty outside

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to CJMumma

You might not be able to go back to the treadmill now!

Now you've tried the outdoors! Its addictive you know :-)

I found I had a pacing issue when I first tried transitioning to outdoor running after running exclusively on the treadmill.

That's now a thing of the past and while I can still run on the treadmill without finding it overly boring I do prefer running outside whenever I can.

Just take it easy outside to start with though, running on the treadmill doesn't development the muscles at the back of the legs like running outside does due to the treadmill pull the 'road' along, where-as outside it's the muscles at the back of you legs that do it.

Yes I think I’d worked myself up so much so it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy it so much. 😊

I knew you would enjoy your outdoor run. It can be really exhilarating battling the elements or enjoying scenery or wildlife - a real feast for the senses. Nice to have a choice though. Well done with today's run. πŸ₯³

Hooray outside is great isnt it! I usually run outside but been on hotel treadmill for a week and I agree, so much harder. Hope your next run is outside too!

Well done you! My run 3 is tomorrow (Sunday) I run from home, so don’t need a car key, but I often take a door key. What I do is take a single key and put it snuggly into the top bit of my sports bra. It isn’t uncomfortable, certainly isn’t going anywhere and eliminates the need to carry anything else.

Well done, I much prefer running outside and only use the treadmill if the weather really prevents an outdoor run!! It is so much more satisfying and I think that the fresh air and being outside adds to the benefits too!! Get a pair of running shorts/leggings that have pockets for keys/phone that way you can run with your music on and keys not jangling in your hands!! Keep going!!

That’s so good. I haven’t run outside yet either and also thought that it would be much harder. You have inspired me to do the same. Congratulations πŸ₯³

Honestly I had worked myself up so much but I really enjoyed it! After previous runs on the treadmill my body has β€˜known’ I’ve run but after yesterday I don’t even feel like I’ve run! How mad is that? Go for it and have fun πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

That is just brilliant!

Im just doing treadmill as feel too embarassed to run outdoors but you've made me think it maybe possible!

Just back from dreaded W5R3 in gym so a little smug myself!🀣

Ah well done on completing the 20 mins, it’s a fabulous feeling isn’t it! I totally understand what u mean about being embarrassed cos I get a bit like that too! Yesterday I did my run around the river away from busy streets. Passed some dog walkers but was about it! I thought I’d have trouble pacing myself as I’m used to the treadmill keeping me on track but actually it was fine. I wish I’d done it sooner! Go for it 😊

Fantastic. Like you,I started C25K running on treadmill but somewhere early on I ventured outside and never looked back. Its the best. Once you've graduated, please do try running outside without any music playing. Apart from the thud thud of your own footsteps, its amazing what else you can hear and see. Very well done.

I’ve always run outdoors around nearby fields and lanes and I actually like running in the rain! I did try using the track at our local park but found that very boring. Just think of all that fresh air you’re getting too!

Fantastic, well done on getting out there πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I think partly it feels easier because there's so much more going on to distract you...people to nod at or run round, puddles to avoid or run through, nature or traffic and most of all the great variable British weather!

Also the lack of sweat may be because it dries on you outside in the cool weather...I've noticed how salty I taste when I wash my face in the shower even when I'm not feeling sweaty πŸ˜…

Hope you keep enjoying the great outdoors πŸ‘πŸ˜Š
