Wk8 R2 - Still going

Well I do seem to have come off the rails a bit, but I'm hoping for a good stretch over the next couple of weeks.

Due to illness and other commitments, I've only managed 2 runs in 11 days! Not happy about that at all.

But I worked from home this afternoon and without even checking the weather, i got geared up and on the stroke of 4.30pm, I was out of the door. And my god what a drenching I got. I was sure I could hear somebody building an ark. I was soaked before I'd even finished the 5 minute walk. I often have cyclists pass me by, I dont see many runners. But there was a real chance of being overtaken by an old trout today!

Still, I did it. My new running shoes being well and truly Christened. And I was back running in the dark. Dark, cold and throwing it down. And you know what, I really enjoyed the run. Good pace, felt really good all the way. Never felt close to struggling. Maybe I need more long breaks!

So now I'm really looking forward to Saturday. The last run of week 8 and then it's the big week!

Hope you're all enjoying your running.

Mig

Nice one migs. I have another cold too and have been a bit lazy this week! I am going to go out tomorrow though for a gentle one. Its been 4 days and I feel a bit restless!!

You can do this, only 4 more runs to go!!

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Smelliepoo

Colds make you lazy. But you need to be in order to properly recover. Bet you'll enjoy your run when you get out there!

Smelliepoo profile image
SmelliepooGraduate in reply to RunningMigster

Planning one tomorrow, just a little one to warm back up to it!!

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Smelliepoo

Did you do it?

Smelliepoo profile image
SmelliepooGraduate in reply to RunningMigster

No I didn't, had a manic day after not supposed to have been doing much! I am definitely going tomorrow. I will report back once i have done it!

This weather is not helping my motivation! And I am seriously thinking about getting a treadmill!!

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Smelliepoo

I did think about buying a treadmill too.

However, being the slightly mad fool that I am, I thought I should try to experience outdoor running in all weathers first.

That said, yesterday I had dry weather, hail storm, warm sun and torrential rain, all in the one run 😆

Smelliepoo profile image
SmelliepooGraduate in reply to RunningMigster

Haha! I don't mind so much when it starts raining once I am out, it is just when there is a torrential rain all day and it does not let up at all that I just do e want to go! I did go today though and did 4.5 km in 36 minutes. I used the hoovering as my warm up too, so got home to a nice clean house!!

Good for you! Good time too.

I'd love to get to 5k but run 3 of next week, but I think I'm just too far away from it.

Don't worry about distance for now, that will come soon enough. Just make sure you graduate! I must say I am looking forward to your graduation post, they have been so entertaining so far, I can imagine it being a bit of a corker!!

Sometimes a break can do you good. Or running in the peeing rain works for you. Well done you 😊

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Buddy34

Thank you! Strangely, I do think I quite enjoy the rain. Must be mad.

No not mad just love running 😊

Me? That cant be possible! Hated running all my life and always avoided it at school. Cant possible that I even like it now surely? 😁

Just shows what a great plan and an excellent forum can do for us.😊

I wholeheartedly agree with you.

The program is awesome. But without a combination of my wife's encouragement and this forum, I'm not entirely convinced I'd have got this far.

I agree, I don’t do social media but thus forum has definitely kept me going. Running in the rain, something about it so refreshing. Week 8 - we’ll done!

Well done for getting out there. I've been a bit the same these last couple of weeks. It's been raining so much and I just can't seem to get motivated plus of course its that time of year. I'm busy over the next couple of days so will need to run probably on Sunday. That'll be my W8R3 - I'll be watching your posts! Good luck!

Thanks 59er. Yeah I think everybody is struggling at the moment. Too much going on.

We'll get there!!

Ahh well done for getting out there in the rain. It just hasn’t let up today at all !

I’m not sure I’d have the motivation to run in the dark I much prefer mornings . Not much to go now only a few more 🏃‍♂️ 😁🙂

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Jacca

I started in the morning (though it was still dark at the time I was running). But I just dont seem to have the energy to get out of bed that early anymore. I suspect that will change once the summer comes back around.

Jacca profile image

I just can’t wait to have dry 🦶 oooh it will be fab - it’s one of the reasons I’ve enjoyed the few frosty mornings. Wonder what it will be like in proper sunshine though?!

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Jacca

Think I've had one 'dry run' in the last month :-(

Well done, it takes determination and drive to go out and run in dreadful weather and you did it!

One week to go, you can do it

Just think how easy it will be for you to run 5k when the weather is lovely next Spring at your local Park run, on a sunny morning...

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Runningdumpling

Yay thank you.

I've accepted that I'm probably not going to reach 5k by the time I graduate. But I'm ok with that as the last 1k of my route is all uphill and steep.

But I've done this route from day1, so I'm sticking with it and I'll try something a bit flatter once I graduate.

You did it and enjoyed it!! So well done! It’s not the easiest time of year to get out there especially in the rain. I wimped out after a two hour drive and a car load of stuff to be emptied!

Amazing that you did not feel close to struggling so you now have your stamina established.

It will be a breeze .. here’s to Saturday 👍

RunningMigster profile image

I must admit, I really think the extended rest did me the world of good. Let's see what happens on Saturday!

Wow your one brave runner in training for soon to be graduate . Dark and rain my worst fears .

And you felt good - amazing !

Sorry to hear you got sick in the end from your office ! Get better soon .

I still am doing no exercise and I miss it but foot gets that bit better very day .

Can’t wait to see that post on Week 9 !!

RunningMigster profile image

Thank you, and happy to hear you're on the mend. Bet you cant wait to get back out there.

I think I dodged the worst. I had a couple of days of feeling really rotten, but others around me have had it much worse.

I was so glad/relieved to read your post RunningMigster. I felt really guilty for missing 4 days (also due to a cold, appalling weather and work commitments). I’m about to start Run 1 of Week 9 so I’m almost there and enjoying all my runs, but definitely prefer to run as soon as it’s daybreak. 😇😇

RunningMigster profile image
RunningMigsterGraduate in reply to Gingerrunner

I felt guilty, but I have to say, I felt so much better for the break. So I've convinced myself it would have been the right thing to do anyway.

So despite the break, after I finish run 3 of this week on Saturday, I'm still going to take my normal 2 day break between weeks. Try to stay fresh.

Hope all goes well in your graduation week. I'll look out for your post!

There's something enjoyable about getting out there when most sensible folks stay inside...sensible is for wimps 😅

Good luck for your final week, graduation just in time for Christmas maybe 👍🎄

I really think I must be slightly mad. But running in the dark and rain seems to be my favourite.
