Flipping love the running!

Some of you may know, I’ve restarted c25k after 4 months no running re very problematic shin splints. It’s very slow progress, did wk 1 and then chest infection hit! Aghhh it felt like my running was dooooommmed!!

Back out today in wind and rain for week 2. Loved it! First 90 seconds felt like a killer, but then it always did, so nothing new really. By the end of the final 90 seconds run my feet just wanted to bobble along a bit longer so my head had to take control and say NO! Anyway, progress is progress however slow and my running is running (yes it really is!) however slow.

Slow running is what we've always been told on here and it works. Great you're feeling better again. 😊😊

Slow progress is faster than the progress of someone sitting on the sofa. Slow and steady wins the race.

You take it as slow as you need to. The important thing is your back out there and loving it 😊

Well done! You won’t be defeated, ace! All the best x

That's great that you've started again and listening to your body too. I've had to stop because of a knee injury and it's killing me not being able to run as it took me ages to graduate in the first place but if it takes me 4 months to get better, I'll wait and start again.

Well done on getting out there and loving it all over again 😊

I hope your knee gets better for you to run again soon. Having the patience for a proper recovery is so hard but so essential. I feel for you during this non running time as it is hard to endure but I’m sure you’ll return in due course.

Thank you. I've been putting off going to a physio but I think I'm going to have to soon. It gives me hope that you've recovered enough to start again.

Well done for restarting.

Think I have shin splints. Got to week 7 last week but 8 days now since a run and feels no better. Had ice and heat and deep heat. I want to run too! How did you get better?

Sorry to hear you have shin splints. At first I gave it two weeks rest and then returned to running but ultimately it was insufficient healing time for me. Finally I saw a physio. In the end I ended up not running for 4 months and am now rebuilding very gradually and carefully. I’d suggest seeing a physio sooner or later simply to get professional advice that’s appropriate for you. But care is important. Hope you have a speedy recovery from it.

Thanks. Gosh 4 months. Not sure I do have shin splints but pain in the front bone it feels like and today looks swollen. So frustrating. Good luck. Have you gone back to the beginning of the programme?

I’ve gone back to very beginning, from running 1.5 hours and covering 13k, but I realise I just need to do some running and now understand that duration, distance and time doesn’t have to matter. I’m getting some soreness after each session and therefore giving myself 3 - 4 days off between each run. I’ve decided that tolerating the frustration of it with positivity has to be my goal!! Get yourself checked out would be really worthwhile I’d think so you know what you’re dealing with! All the best. Keep us posted.

Concentrate on midfoot landing and taking much shorter strides! Look at Japanese slow jogging. It worked for me and now I can jog pain free everyday!

I love it that you love the running! Me too!

When I started, overweight and unfit, it was a challenge & I couldn't say I actually loved doing it, though I loved the feeling afterwards.

But now I actually love doing it as well. Sometimes I have to psych myself up to do it, as I'm doing the Bridge to 10k and building up distance week by week, so I think yikes I've never run this far before! But once I start, I remember how much I love doing this.

Often the first bit is a bit of a killer as you say, but you get to find the rhythm, and then you don't want to stop.

I’m glad you’re loving it too. It’s something very special. Even the hard bits sort of get forgotten by the end of the run. Happy running.
