Postponed from yesterday, Mrs LeeU and I set off down to the canal toe-path again this morning, a bright, sunny autumnal morning.
We started with the obligatory 5 minute warm up walk and then set off at a slow pace to try to avoid upsetting the Mrs LeeU's asthma. She had taken a few extra precautions, one being a cowl to stop her breathing in cold air.
The aim was to run for longer than the 10 minutes she managed last week but we weren't running to a time target, 16 minutes in and Mrs LeeU had stitch and had to walk for a couple of minutes, we also turned back towards the car park.
After a short walking break we set off jogging again and we completed the 'course' back to the car.
During the course of this run I did allow myself to get a little ahead, when I was 30 feet in front I'd turn and jog until I was 30 - 40 feet behind and then turn again and jog back up to Mrs LeeU.
Overall, we ran for longer and slightly further than last week, again, there wasn't a time target, Mrs LeeU can run for 20 minutes on the treadmill as she's completed week 5 run 3 but running outside is different and tends to trigger her asthma if we aren't careful but today, the asthma demons seemed to stay away.
I'm enjoying the runs outside, more to see and ever changing, I may try the local ParkRun circuit during the week, I will need to go out on my own sooner or later to ensure I can control my pace without relying on someone else. We'll see how the week pans out.
Quick question too, what do you do when it's icy or has snowed? Do you recommend going back to the treadmill or run outside in trail shoes, etc?
Happy running everyone.
