I can’t believe I am still doing this, but I am!
Yesterday, I did W2, R1. I was a bit worried that I wouldn’t make it through the 90 sec runs, but everything went fine, and I even had the energy to speed up a little bit on the second half of the last run, which made me feel like I was actually finishing a race. Other than that, I kept at my snail-like pace and kept enjoying it. After the run, I felt just the right bit of exhaustion, but I wasn’t out of breath.
The only problem is that the park is a ten minute’s brisk walk away, which doubles the warm up and the cool down time for me. While I find that this suits me very well for warming up, I do notice that it makes the cool down walk just a little bit too long. But I think I can handle this as well.
What I have noticed though is that my body seems to know the C25k programme! For example, when I started last week, I had to remind myself constantly to drink enough water. But now my body is demanding water all the time. No chance to ever forget to drink. Same thing happens with the rest days. On rest days, my body seems to tell me “Well, I don’t know about you, but I certainly won’t do any running today. Just let me do my thing”.
Actually, I feel that my body is really DOING something during the rest days. I don’t know what it is, but it seems to me that, whatever it is, it is THE crucial thing that makes your body stronger and fitter. The biggest part of the work really seems to be done in between runs, not during the run itself.
I am quite amazed about this, and I would like to take the opportunity to officially thank my body for the great work it does (and has done for all these years). Thank you, old pal!
Edit: My first version of this post spoke of the "90 min (!) runs" I was afraid of. Hahaha - I bet I will be afraid of them for the rest of my life ...
