Thinking I was gonna lose at least 3-4 lbs in my first week of C25K. Completed Run 3 Thursday and looking forward to this morningโ€™s weigh-in, but shock/horror 2 lbs added on ๐Ÿ˜ซ....canโ€™t be right surely!!

Totally demoralising!! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ข

Oh mrgetfit2019. Donโ€™t be disheartened, You have completed 3 runs which in itself is amazing. Donโ€™t worry about the weight thing just concentrate on the getting fit. You will notice a difference but it does take time.

Thank you for your encouragement Twinkle9. Thought Iโ€™d have at least lost a lb or two. Maybe a bit of muscle formed which is a bit heavier before fat starts burning? Who knows? Iโ€™ll keep plugging away ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

C25K is not a weight loss programme. Thirty minutes of running does not burn significant number of calories to impact on weight. However you will already have started to improve just about every aspect of your body's function.......heart, lungs, circulation, muscles, brain and bone strength will all benefit from becoming fit. Without adjusting your calorie intake, weight loss is unlikely at this stage, but you are laying the base for becoming a long distance runner.........once you start running for longer than an hour then weight lossis highly probable, because the body starts to burn fat.

The best way is to eat well, watch your calories, forget about the scales and follow this plan..........you will become toned and fit.........you willl probably lose weight in time.

This might help anitabean.co.uk/https-anita...

Thank you so much lannodaTruffe for you very detailed explanation.....much appreciated. Iโ€™m probably expecting a bit too much too soon. Iโ€™ll bear everything youโ€™ve said in mind, and just focus on the plan. Many thanks ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I was already on SW plan and had lost almost 2 stone when I started C25k. I was nearly at my target weight. People rarely commented on my weight loss. Once I progressed to the second half of the C25k plan, people began to comment on my weight, but actually the scales hadnโ€™t really changed. So, keep eating well and following the C25k and you are becoming fitter and healthier and toning up. Good luck.

Donโ€™t worry about the weight. You will be getting fitter and with time you will start to convert fat to muscle which does add to your weight. By the time I graduated I had lost 2 stone with lots of weight fluctuations both up and down. Stick at it and youโ€™ll feel great at the end.

Thanks ExeBob....itโ€™s great to hear the results from experience. It all looks very promising. Will continue with it and see what happens ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Definitely keep going. My weight loss came as part of a decision to make a life style change which included a healthy diet and Couch to 5k was a huge part of it. It really motivates you to run regularly and it really works. Go for it and good luck.

You would have to burn circa 10,000 + extra calories to lose 3lbs of fat , so c25k is not going to achieve that but it will help you over time. I am also trying to lose weight as part of my getting healthier programme and there is no magic bullet. Cutting calories by eating better, healthier meals is the only way to do it safely and for the long term ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you Jogonton. Yes I will have to concentrate on meal plans too I think and eliminating naughty snacks etc. Thank you for your advice ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

I started the C25K programme in the second week of January by June having graduated in March I had lost 16lbs and various amounts of inches off the waist. Gone from a tight 34โ€ to a 30/31โ€ waist clothes all baggy and I seem to be able to eat what I want. So I am sure you will lose some and reshape yourself over a period of time. Good luck and keep going.

Just be patient. When you are doing the longer runs 3x per week and are mindful of what you are eating you will see results. It's not all about the numbers on the scales your body shape changes also . Good luck ๐Ÿ˜Š

Weight loss is a funny thing, it can be affected by so many different factors, the amount you drink, the time of the day you weigh yourself etc but the concept of it is quiet simple (normally) if you run at a calorific deficit then you should lose weight.

But, if you start something like C25K then you will do one thing for sure, you will get fitter. You will build up the muscles, not to the point of them being like a body builders but the muscles will grow and strengthen.

More muscle will mean more calories required just to do the normal day to day things you do.

Depending where you are coming from in your weight loss journey will depend on how your body will change initially, 3 runs in won't really change much, give it a couple of weeks more, don't weigh yourself daily or weekly, do it monthly if that.

I know itโ€™s hard not to focus on weight loss, but if you can, consider all that youโ€™re doing for your health and well being and make that your focus.

I do get it though. To the extent that when I started C25k, I made a friend take my scales away because I knew that it would be easy to become disappointed if the numbers werenโ€™t falling!

Hmm. You increased your weekly calorie burn by 3x 200 calories and expected to lose 3-4 lb.

Weight loss will start when you are running 45-60 minutes three times per week. Assuming that you donโ€™t reward yourself with little treats, or take the view that you can eat more โ€œbecause you are runningโ€.

I stopped weighing myself, it was either that, or stop running!!.

It did settle eventually, and I can still wear the same clothes that I started out with. I still don't weigh myself, but nor do I still do the 5:2 diet, so I imagine running holds me steady ๐Ÿ˜Š
