Short breaks in runs.

Finished week 3 on Sunday and really enjoying it so far. One slight worry I do have - and I’m almost certain that I’m over thinking it - but is there a problem with stopping briefly in runs, I have to climb over walls around every 90 second/2 minutes like the ones in the picture. There’s two walls together each time. I do try to keep the pace up if I’m on a running part rather than walking but sometimes worry that the break is meaning I’m not truly running 3minutes or what have you.

I’m over thinking it aren’t I?

Yep...overthinking..if you really feel guilty..pop in an extra bit...We all have to stop...pause..crossing roads...stopping for trains, tractors..going through gates.

Stopping running is stopping...standing still and not moving.

You're doing fine..I love that wall...where are you running?

I thought so - just needed someone to tell me so. Really committed to this and don’t want to be getting it wrong.

That’s just a picture from google. I’m running near Holmfirth. Picture of real walls tomorrow 😃👍🏼

At first I thought the "wall" was the type of wall that marathon runners hit at around 20 miles, not a real wall until I saw the photo. 😊 If possible, you could run a different route where there are no walls or other objects that can hinder your run.

I’m near Holmfirth, too. Is this group all people round this neck of the woods? I thought it was national.

No it’s national LLH. I love running round here but finding anywhere flat enough is a bit of a bugger 😂

And don't rush those walls and sprain an ankle. Once you get into this you'll be really annoyed with yourself if you can't run because of an injury. Looking forward to some nice dry stone wall pics!

Thought it had to be somewhere in my neck of the woods! I’m in Glossop so pretty much one very twisty hilly road away.

Stopping is necessary in such cases and always will be for you in training at least, so of course it’s fine... as are the above mentioned road crossings, trains etc... I even had to stop for stubborn ducks once 🤣

There's a difference between engaging with an obstacle (as you are doing) and 'taking a breather' and walking or stopping which is just about your needs. Those particular obstacles are going to be keeping your heart rate up too.

That said, there may be merits in looking for some variety in your routes so you can experience and acquire a bit more rhythm for the longer runs, but it's all the art of the possible and those walls are good for the soul. It would appear you are on Couch to 5k hurdles variation.

C25K hurdles! 😂 Best laugh of the day! Sorry nm, probably not so funny when you're clambering over them.

We need a ‘laugh’ icon along with the ‘like’ icon. :)

That sounds like a beautiful place to run NearlyMan! ....I just have to pause at a lot of roads with motorists who mostly ignore my obvious impatience to get across....trotting up and down along the edge if the road whilst looking for a gap in the traffic would be a 'give away ' you'd think 🤔

Happy running, and wall hopping! 😁🏃‍♀️

On tonight’s run I saw someone else have to stop running to pick up after their dog.

I am now much happier about having to stop for walls 😂
