This morning’s run was so lovely

This is coming here because it’s still part of my getting faster Plan. I’ll soon be switching over to posting in the 10k forum while I prep for doing Beachy Head 10k at the end of October.

I should have run yesterday, but what with one thing and another, it simply didn’t happen, so knowing that we had a family trip planned for today, I just got up early doors and took Merlin to the river for a jolly. It was actually a tad cold when we set off, with a river mist rolling across the fields on the far bank, but we soon warmed up.

A couple of years ago, I couldn’t have done the run that I did today without a walk break, but today? Wow. Definite proof that I have improved as a runner. I could definitely have completed the run with only a brief stop at the water trough for Merlin, in the end I didn’t because another member of my Canicross group appeared behind me, running with her collie (who is returning from injury) so we finished the run together, with a couple of walk breaks and pauses to negotiate stiles. I made up for the walk breaks by keeping up - and chatting! - with her while Merlin had a free run at one point (and her dog didn’t).

It is now that I admit that I’m worried that my running is going too well. This is he first summer that I managed to get out regularly to run, and I have been suspiciously injury free 👀

That said? The family trip was to a big swimming complex about an hour away, and after a brief play session with the grandsprockets, I left them with their respective parents and went for a swim. This was about 7 hours ago, now, and my eyes are still sore 🙁

Well done - my view is always wait until the challenges present themselves and not look too far ahead. Make hay while the sun shines and enjoy your running x

Wise advice.

You sound as if you really had a great run and a lovely day with your family 😊😊

I really did. And got treated to lunch as ‘payment’ for driving.

Really wish my eyes felt okay though. I’ll have to go and search for some eye drops. I do have some somewhere.

Or just some water with salt added if you cant find them

I’d rather find them, they are some really good comfort solution ones (that are actually Merlin’s. But don’t freak out, they are for humans & come in individual dispensers).

What a lovely day you have had and running near water is delicious

Running near water is 👍 And also gets bonus points for being flat - so worth the short drive to get to it 😁

Lovely.

A group of us (with dogs) will be trying to beat the tide from Widewater(?) to Worthing next Saturday morning, at some ridiculously early hour.

I'm just hoping my knees will make it, I've not managed to run on the beach as much as I was hoping to.

That sounds fun, we’ve run along the path at the top of the beach but not run on sand much,

Now that’s quite some run! Looks like you’ll be on the Bridge for a whole week 🤣. Very well done. Don’t think I could have swam after it.

Hahahahahaha! Well Merlin has to work up to working for the whole 10k, and I have to start doing hills, so I’ll definitely be there longer than that.

Swim was a gentle swim, I wish the water had been.

Ah yes... magic plan for Merlin... that’s fitting!

Great time, very well done! Swim with the family sounds fun but shame about your eyes 😕

It was lovely, but my eyes were still awful when I went to be just after 10. I was hugely relieved when they were fine yesterday morning, I was beginning to think I’d picked up an infection of some sort.
