Broke my duck

Just got back from my first run - what a feeling!

Never thought I would actually get out and do this. I was late home from work too, so had a ready made excuse but got myself out there regardless. That first running part I was thinking “this is tougher than I expected - I’ve no chance” but somehow it gets easier.

Thank you for everyone’s support - I laid awake at midnight last reading through the FAQ post - the more I’d put in to it the more likely I felt I was to actually take the plunge.

Now my next dilemma, having read the FAQ is when to do my next run. I had thought Wednesday but I play tennis on a Thursday (this is the last match of the season so won’t be a problem for long) and don’t know if that would then mean I wouldn’t be following the plan as not having a rest day on Thursday. But if I can’t go that then next run is Saturday which feels a long way away and also means my next run after that isn’t within the first week.

I’m tempted to run Wednesday, play tennis Thursday and run again Saturday or Sunday. Given it’s only a one off with it being the last tennis match I’m hoping it won’t cause too much harm.

I’m also wary of trying to strike whilst the irons hot - it’s taken me just shy of 30 years to get out and go for a run!

Great job... and I’m loving that you had fun out there.

Wednesday is logical for the run. Are you likely to be in a 5 hour 5 setter with lots of running around? Maybe wait until Saturday... you’re a run in, the tennis will only help and there’s no real rush... it’s more about injury prevention. If it was me I’d probably run Saturday.

4 sets but definitely not going at an hour a set 😂 this is my first season at tennis too

Cheers for the advice!

Tennis to me, is a rest day exercise?

I would run Monday, Wednesday and Sunday if I was worried about bounding round the court too much. As long as you have one non running day in between runs you are fine... on some of your rest days, non impact exercise all helps...:)

Well done...me too, first run. Good luck and run Wednesday, tennis on Thursday will give you two days running rest... hope both go well for you.

'Rest' simply means 'non-running' rather than staying in bed (think it is only me that does that and I have my reasons) although tennis may count as similarly high impact so you might be right to be cautious. As you say, not planning to do it regularly. Maybe, as you suggest, just not do W1R3 on Friday?

'Week' is simply shorthand for 'set of 3 repetitions' for most of C25K... The *most* anyone on the programme should be doing is running every other day, which if you are able to keep that up and each session is successful, you would graduate in less than nine weeks (I don't think this happens because... life) Some prefer to run on set days... but again, stuff happens.

Just listen to what you're body's telling you. If you're feeling achy or sore, don't push it. There's no rush to get through the program. Don't forget to stretch properly after your runs and tennis. Enjoy!
