iPhone 4s running app? Gps?

Hello! My old iPhone 4s uses iOS 9. I haven’t been able to find any running apps it is compatible with. Any ideas please? Or am I going to have to get a running gps watch instead? I’m thinking of the Forerunner 35 if so....

It's infuriating but that's apple for you. Unless you decide to upgrade your phone, a GPS watch is a good option (either one with onboard GPS or one that can Bluetooth to your iPhone's GPS).

I have the Garmin vivoactive 3. Built in GPS is good. I don't have the music version but because it's Bluetooth linked to my phone (which I always have when running) I can control my phone's music player from it.

It’s not Apple, it’s the developers... they have the option to leave older versions in the App Store when the new one has a higher iOS requirement

True, but apple don't help. I have an iPod touch which has the same chipset as the iPhone SE (which is essentially an iPhone 6 crammed into an iPhone 4 chassis). The iPhone (which is my work phone, I'm an Android guy personally) is on iOS 12, but my iPod is still on 9. There's no reason it couldn't run 12, apple have just decreed that it won't.

That’s usually a speed issue... but then they slow the device down before you try to upgrade anyway 🤣. I found android too messy, and very confusing when it came to what device is supported by a new level, and I struggle to use one... some of this is my fault for starting on Apple II and pretty much never using a PC since.

I started out on an acorn atom. I do have a Windows Surface note book but my laptop is Linux.

Apple is good kit, I just don't like the fact I have to do things their way (e.g.) iTunes, and the fact they deliberately slow down "older" models. I like the freedom to adapt my tech to my wants and needs and not to have to adapt myself to its constraints (that way, SkyNet lies...).

They claim to have stopped doing it now.

I’m on Mac and have been for years at home... work was AIX and I dabbled in Linux for mini servers... OSX is unix now anyway.

As a parent Apple was the only secure choice for internet safety... which was a shame because that’s some expensive kit my daughter takes to school every day 😱

Thank you. It is jolly irritating I agree! Do you find the gps tracking a good motivator? I already have a Withings stepcounter watch, but for distance, as opposed to steps, it’s very over optimistic when jogging.

I know Nike Run Club offers an older version for iOS 10, so there’s a chance that they still serve a 9 version

How would I find an older version please?

By trying to download the new version... you’ll get a message that you’re not supported but an older version is available.

Hooray! Thank you. I managed to download it on my whizzy new iPad, then I looked in purchased apps on the iPhone, and it’s there! BRILLIANT! Now then...to measure distance, do I literally press start when I start and stop when I stop?

Yep... that will do it!

The guided runs are great if they’re in that version, not sure when they came in.

I just had another thought... Nike+ used to come preinstalled but turned off on iPod touch and iPhone... you may be able to turn it on again in settings... I never used it, so I don’t know what it did, and I can’t remember when it was removed from iOS to become Nike+run club and Nike+ training club apps.

Yes...I will try it out tomorrow.....just finished the c25k course, and now want to know how far I can manage comfortably! My stepcounter counts steps but ‘joffling” distance is inaccurate.
