Happy Days and park run

Two good things happened this week, I started the c25k because I was over weight had type 2 diabetes and was lazy. I started and was helped a lot by my wife to follow a no sugar diet which allowed me to loose the first 1.5 stone so my knees didn't give up when running like the last time I tried c25k I have now lost 2.5 stone down to 79 kg. Then started the c25k which I found very hard, I am now on w7r2 and used w7r3 as my park run and knocked 1 min off week 1s time 34.05 for 5k is not a great time but I am happy with it for now. The best news due to diet and c25k is my Hba1C is down to 42 which is normal from 75, I don't know how that effects my diagnosis with type 2 but I will find out next Thursday and hopefully I can loose the the medication at least. fingers crossed happy days

That is a very good time Nella, 34.05 is excellent, I ran my first parkrun in 34.16, so that was quicker by 11 seconds, well done.

Good grief, what an amazing achievement! And that's a blooming decent time for a first parkrun, onwards and upwards 💪🙌

Well done! This is great news! Keep going!

Losing weight helped me with my type 2 diabetes. i used to take tablets for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol and now I don't take anything at all. It's one of the things I am most proud of. I still think of myself as 'diabetic' at times which helps me avoid suagary temptations but the doctor said that I'm actually pre-diabetic now. It's great what a healthy lifestyle can do! Well done to you on your journey.

Poole as you are clear of the tablets how are you carrying on with the food side do you have to rigourously keep to a diabetic diet or can you let off a bit. And how do you get enough carbs for running.

Hi Nella, I have been going to WW for a couple of years now and my diet has evolved. My wife is a veggie/pescatarian and whilst she's OK with me having meat, I find it easier just to have what she's having. We eat a lot of fish, fruit, pulses and vegetables, hardly any bread and in my case, hardly any alcohol. Since my diabetes has been under control I don't have the sugar cravings that I used to. I do have the occasional treat when I'll have pretty much what I want but it's a treat now and then rather than a daily occurrence! I got a bit obsessed with wanting to come off the meds to be honest, but I was so pleased when I got there. I used to have to measure my blood sugar levels too but that's a thing of the past now. The major thing for me was dealing with hunger. This is going to sound pretentious but I had to make it my friend and ally in my fight against diabetes. I used to love taking my blood sugar level and seeing those numbers come down. I didn't starve but I got used to being peckish without eating stuff that was bad for me. I couldn't have done it without the support of my wife and WW. You sound like you are in a positive place too so good luck and carry on the great work!

Well done! It sounds like you should soon be free of the Type 2 before long. It can be reversed, and I think you’re going to do it!

Well done! It's looks like your diabetes is reversing. It's amazing what you can do with the right attitude and a bit of effort. Very impressive.

WTG! You’re doing really well and had a better time at your parkrun than either of mine! Keep going, enjoy and see you on the podium which isn’t too far away 🤗 x

Whatever makes you say 34.05 is not a good time, it's awesome. You are doing great.

Thank you to all I am not saying that 34:05 is not good it’s great as an improvement I just want to be able to keep with my friend who does abt 28 and he is 63, 3 years younger than me. As for the type 2 I have never been so determined to do anything than reverse it , I have young grand children and I want to enjoy them for as many years as possible.
