What is Your Week? July...Week 2. Let us know what you are up to !

Hello everyone.... Yes..here I am again....

It is the second week in July... already!

With the better weather, folk have been getting out there and strutting their stuff. I am back out and running... slowly, steadily... what else would I do... and so glad to be out there after my spell on the IC.

I am building back up to where I left off...but I am listening to my body all the time.... I know that I will get there.... eventually!

The number of folk on the forum increases daily...( the numbers are truly frightening), and although it is tricky to keep up with everyone's progress... it is great to have a little fun post, so we can see who is on which week of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

I apologise if I miss posts or replies, as there really are a lot of us!

We can support, encourage and generally help each other, in a positive and friendly way, with no thought of comparison.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

If you have just Graduated, also, this will be a great place to keep you motivated, and the new Quest on here too...pleas do take a look and join in!

One of the best things about this weekly chat is that you can talk to each other, support and encourage each other and find folk on the same week or run as you.

So, please do come and join the fun...slip off your running shoes, and just let us know how it is going :)

Yes, tbh I read through a LOT of week 1 posts before I ever considered trying it and some of the people posting were what got me out the house.

Me too..reading all the exciting posts when I started...and the folk that inspired me then..still do...and they have got me to the most amazing places.. including my first HM this March!

Hello! I’m glad you’re able to get out and run again if you’ve been injured - must have been so frustrating. I did W1R3 yesterday so on to W2 tomorrow! I’m excited about it, still nervous about my historically dodgy knee, but going slow and “kissing the ground with my feet” as you suggested. Starting to daydream about proper running shoes...

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Jazzyrunner

Great daydream to have too... Thank you..it is so good to be running... and seeing all the changes, out there, whilst I have been on the IC too!

You are doing wonderfully... did I I give you the link to the knee exercises?

nhs.uk/live-well/exercise/k...

Just take it, exactly as you are doing ! Well done you!

Jazzyrunner profile image
JazzyrunnerGraduate in reply to Oldfloss

Thank you! Yes I’ll give those knee exercises a go too 👍🏻

Amazing how quickly nature changes when you miss seeing an area in a while!

Yesterday was w7r1, it was tough with the heat and also I had a party before my run... Never again!!!

Hi OldFloss, glad to hear that you are out there running again, yay😀. I am recovering from tonsillitis but maybe a little jog later in the week. 5k Race for Life on Sunday 😊

Had got to the end of week 8, then an asthma attack last weekend stopped me for a while. Went out yesterday and did 25 mins (wk 7 run) with only slightly twitchy lungs. So will do a 28 mins (wk 8 run) tomorrow, then back onto week 9 by the end of the week.

Nearly there! ( And this time I will try and keep going rather than injure myself!)

Well done you... do take care and take it really gently :) x

I managed a slower pace than any of the walk/run weeks!!! Slow jogging rules!!!

Zebadee1 profile image

Last run of wk7 today. I can't believe I now jog for 25 mins when only seven weeks ago I struggled with 1 minute. I am strangely addicted to this!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Zebadee1

It is a wonderful addiction :)

Take it slow and steady and really enjoy these longer runs... they are perfect for starting slow and staying slow and relaxing into:) Well done you!

Hi Oldfloss! Glad to see that you’re back up and running (quite literally!!).... I completed W6R3 this morning so onwards to W7, hopefully on Wednesday!! Still can’t quite believe I ran for 25mins and actually enjoyed it (sort of 😉) 😊

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Nicky_F

Thank you! Running again is wonderful!

Relax now into the lovely, longer runs... let the newly forming running legs begin to find their happy pace:)

Well done you...onward and upward:)

Ooh congrats, I did the same and it felt really good (once it was done)

Hi!

This is my week 2 and I'm itching to get started and a bit upset I'm not doing run 1 until weds morning, feels like ages away! But I have to fit it in where I can with my 9 year old. I'm planning morning runs on weds, Fri and Sunday this week. Looking forward to feeling that I've improved! 😁

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to ChoosingHappy

Go you... running and looking after small one too:) Well done.. Take it steady and slow and if you don't do enough on your rest days ( with a small one:)). there is some strength and flex work that you can do, to use up any spare energy :) :)

ChoosingHappy profile image
ChoosingHappyGraduate in reply to Oldfloss

Thanks! And I do try to get out for a 20 min brisk walk every lunchtime so that's keeping me going in the meantime and keeping my steps up on my resurrected fitbit! 😁

Hi it's the oldie, age wise. I read you're improving, great, and your 70+ friend is training for half marathon, phew on that.

This morning did w5r1 so coming along. Had some left in the tank so did another 3 mins run and more walking to get up to 5.2k (so my app says 🙂) in 43mins. I see the 20min run beckons soon. We see how it goes 🙂

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Skeg

Huge well done.. stick to the plan and just take it steady and slow until Graduation:) Always best to stop with something left in the tank... as the runs get longer we need that back up. It is a great journey.. why rush it:)

For me it's week 2 run 2 tomorrow (Thurs 11th) after work, with our C25K group - without whom I would not have started. I've just (April) turned 60, nearly died of pneumonia in March. It's amazing what a brush with death does for getting you trying for better fitness! Hurty knees (but not, afaik, damaged ones) so I'm running with knee supports. Our group is led by an experienced runner with plenty of 5 and 10K under his belt, I'm sure he'd tell me to stop if necessary. But the group dynamic is great, we keep each other going and ask how we are feeling the following morning. I intend to finish the programme unless prevented by injury.

Very well done you indeed... Keep it steady and keep it comfortable... and do enjoy your run this evening:)

About to start week 8, injury free this time round (at least from running) Found a great way of slowing my pace down too, grass!!! Much slower, however this goes out of the window as soon as l touch a hard surface & old habits return lol. Glad your out & about running again Oldfloss, happy running 👍🏻

Thanks you! Well done on discovering grass too!

About to start week 5 tonight. Think tonight's should be manageable but the 3rd run this week is making me nervous looking at it!
