6 month graduation anniversary run ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ!!

Iโ€™ve not been posting for a fair few weeks - work took over & I had to work odd hours - and giving up screen time was the only way to help me sleep. But the work is now nearly done & today is my 6 month graduation anniversary. So had to run & had to share!

I did have dreams of a 10k as a 6 month celebration but once the workload got too much, getting two good runs a week was often all I could do, and not many weeks with 3 runs. And with the heat - well the 10k will be there next time it cools down.

So today I dusted off my graduation playlist (starts with Get Up Offa That Thing and ends with Staying Alive!!) and did a lovely slow 30 minute run - perfect for the heat. Iโ€™ve been running with podcasts & audio books for quite awhile now - so going back to disco was a nostalgic fun space!

And for those who are fairly new here, and havenโ€™t seen my fave film of all time (and I normally post as an answer to all running challenges)! Here he is, the lovely (late lamented) prof & the Japanese Slow Jogging technique

m.youtube.com/watch?v=9L2b2...

And boy did that run feel good. Six months from graduation, Iโ€™ve really got into (work permitting) learning to run for longer duration - always nice & slow & love the groove you can settle into at this easy pace, and in the heat & when you donโ€™t have time, a lovely slow 30 mins can be just the job.

So all you lovelies in the early stages - stick at it - it really is a blooming miracle. And if youโ€™re struggling with the heat, of durations - learn to run slowly - itโ€™s just wonderful!

I feel strong, I feel good, slimmer& trimmer. And bags more energy & strength in many aspects of life. So thank you c25k & thank you all the lovely people on this site. I missed you all - that was the worst part of the work - having to forgo the pleasures of the support, enthusiasm & motivation of this amazing space x

Just the run I did this morning, and maybe a beer after Iโ€™ve mowed the lawn!! But all good - it felt important just to run today x

Yes definitely! Iโ€™ve just popped mine on my calendar for the 25th. Enjoy your beer!๐Ÿบ

JSJ is the new black ๐Ÿ˜‰

Much respect for keeping it going through busy times. I started a new job last week, on my feet all day. It's difficult to eat and drink well and keep fitting the runs in but I will follow your great example ๐Ÿ‘

I have a 10k place booked at the end of September, should have cooled off a bit by then ๐Ÿ˜‚

Keep up the good work โ˜บ

The JSJ has really seen me through - if all I can do is 30 & a couple of times a week thatโ€™s fine & it seems enough, because when I can Iโ€™m still running for 50 mins or an hour, but on those cooler days. In this heat a verrry slooow 30 is perfect. So just do what you can & when you settle youโ€™ll get back in the swing x

Like you say 30 is good and 6 mths ago something we only dreamed of being able to do ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good to see you back Disco, you have been missed. It puts a big smile on my face knowing that you're still out there running. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’—

Oh thank you clubberlang - yup this running thing is certainly part of my life now. And it really helped with the work slog, a slow run could really put me in a good place. And I didnโ€™t feel completely burnt out - helped me to reset! Itโ€™s good to be back x

Woohoo, happy 6 months anniversary! It's nice to see you back on here, we missed you, and the Prof!

Thanks Debston - itโ€™s great to be back. This space is such a great motivator it was hard to be away. But I was working odd hours, up really early (and I am not an early riser) so had to be in bed super early - as I also really need my sleep - and the blue screen light from my phone was making that hard! But all good now x

Great post... and inspiring to see someone keeping up the running around a hectic life. A couple or runs a week will have kept you developing nicely. 10k is a good autumn project for sure.

Happy running.

Thanks so much UnM - really looking forward to doing it - 30 mins feels like a good maintenance run but been loving the longer ones.

Happy running

Hereโ€™s hoping this summer wonโ€™t be as brutal as the last one... but if it is then itโ€™s all about maintaining fitness and putting some strength work in ready for the autumn. Thereโ€™s a reason London marathon is April and Berlin is September!

Thank you for that, Iโ€™ll do that!

It really helped me do it! Found it could clear my mind so was very motivated to try and fit it in. Managed a few weeks with 3 runs, so feel good ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hello DiscoRunner! So glad to read a post from you again. Glad to hear that youโ€™ve kept up the running through all the heavy work stuff. It is great to have that time and space to yourself. I landed on the IC with extensor tendonitis after I ran W9R1 a month ago and unfortunately have been on it ever since โ˜น๏ธ, Rather frustrating to have reached that stage, but Iโ€™ll only do more harm than good if I rush back. I look through the posts occasionally, so it was a nice surprise to see one from you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Oh no - Delly-dot thatโ€™s terrible - that must be really painful and very frustrating. Iโ€™m sure youโ€™re doing what you can, and testing lots. Youโ€™ll do it. Youโ€™ll be back out there. You always showed such determination, and were clearly so enjoying it, I know youโ€™ll get back into it x

Paucity of postings? No probs, theyโ€™re good when we get them.

Six month grad hey? Thatโ€™s easily worth a yeehah and double fist pump.

Unfulfilled dreams of a 10k? Stuff happens (in my case gastroenteritis, last antibiotics today) but, weโ€™ll get there. for sure.

I thought of the late lamented Prof only this morning, my 4km split time was the same as my first km, half of which was walking but . . . itโ€™s got to stay fun and like you Iโ€™ve got my beady little eye on that 10k in whatever time it takes.

Iโ€™m planning my โ€˜anniversaryโ€™ on my 54th run toward the end of this month.

Keep on keeping on.

Life will get in the way! Mind you the heat will give me pause but I donโ€™t mind. Hope youโ€™re on the mend soon. And very happy to still be running 6 months in - means itโ€™s not a passing fad!

Happy running, ๐Ÿข

Hi DR, thank you for a lovely post - your JSR recommendation got to me before I started my C25K journey and Iโ€™ve stuck with it throughout!. I had a few weeks on the IC but Iโ€™m back on track again now and still following the prof! And recommending the style to new runners as well! Good to hear from you and that youโ€™re still running - enjoy!

DiscoRunner profile image
DiscoRunnerGraduate in reply to Oldgirlruns

It was the JSR that made me realise running really was for me - heat notwithstanding I can just run & run!

Glad your off the IC. Happy running!
