New here - any other slow joggers? Niko Niko pace?

Hi all. I am going to be 55 this year and have tried to start running various times in my past. I always ended up with sore joints, until I discovered Hiroaki Tanaka’s book on slow jogging this past March. So far so good! My body lets me know when my form is not right, or if I am pushing too hard.

It must be working out because its May and I am still doing it! Anyways, I would like to connect with anyone else who is on the same path. I am working towards 5k and for now am flirting with 4k. There is a race in Toronto my son does called the Sporting Life 10k thats run on Mothers Day in support of “Camp Ooch” (a camp for kids stricken with cancer)

I made the decision to run it next year.

Is it possible for this old girl to work up to 10k in one year?

Thanks

Anita

Hi old girl. This silver strider has gone from zero to 5K since early March and I have a bus pass if I want to get to 10k away. My best advice is to watch Prof. Tanaka on YouTube. Search Japanese Slow Running. Feet /ankle , arm position, speed & breathing all covered. I ran my first 5K this morning at Tanaka speed. 46’48”. It’s my PB and likely to stay at about that. You are considerably younger and with care and the advice of the more experienced folks here should do well. Hope it’s just the Camp that says Oooch! Most important. Have fun doing it.

There are so many Niko Niko converts here on the forum you will feel like you have come home!! I love it and so do many others.Which week are you up to in C25K program? If you are around 4K you must be progressing really well. Sounds to me that the wonderful 10K charity race is well within your capabilities. There is so much advice on this forum for C25K, and on the forums for the stages beyond, that you will get all the help and support you need to help you to achieve your goal.

Good luck 😊🍀

I am so pleased to have found you all! I have read professor Tanaka's book and have been trying to follow it as best as I can. Hatman HAHA that's camp Oochigeas but I guess they shorten it to Ooch because no one knows how to say it! Thank you Iannoda I will look at the link... and Delly I have been slowly progressing since the last week of Feb/early March. I just keep going until I feel a twinge somewhere that tells me my form is off. As soon as I correct it to Professor Tanaka's suggestions the twinges go away. What I find gets me is the little muscles just under my hip above my quads. I don't know what they are called but that is what gets tired. And I love Niko Niko pace! No gasping for breath! In fact I sing along to my music as I go!
