Slipped discs anyone ?

I first started C25K a year ago.. after many years of back problems I was finally diagnosed with prolapsed discs in lower back. Since then I have had conflicting advice from physios, G.Ps and orthopaedic registrar about whether or not to run. My discs are not currently prolapsed but will never recover completely now as they are a bit flattened rather than plump and healthy.

I had managed to get to week 8 ..on treadmill..before having to take a rest due to a flare up of the back problem.

Has anyone on here been in the same boat ?

My husband had fusion of his lower discs years ago and had to swim every day for a year to aid recovery. But when he healed he was able to run, play squash, tennis, golf, do all sorts in the gym so it didn't hold him back.

While it's not the same as your problem I'm only telling you this to give you hope. His operation was very serious and it took over a year to recover yet he has continued to be very active.

I have had a slipped disc in the past and it still re-occurs and gives me pain but I try to manage it and avoid lifting heavy pots in particular - gardening is my other passion - and this is sometimes a challenge 🙄 But I run 3/4 times a week and do stretching exercises in the gym and pilates which is great for the back.

It sounds as if you need good solid advice from a professional. From all of them I'd listen to the orthopaedic person.
