Went out for my usual run on Monday to find that my hayfever has triggered thanks to tree pollen, instead of my usual 30min jog along the fields I ended up doing a jog/walk combo. Got to the garage to pick up my car and the eyes were streaming, nose running and I sounded like I was having an asthma attack. This morning took a benedryl and went early around the local lake, started well but before you knew it off the hayfever triggered again :-( I did manage 2.12miles in 31 mins before I caved in and went back to the car. As much as I adore running outside it's a lot harder at this time of year for me, wondering if I should just use the treadmill once a week for the 30min run and then go back to the c25k program and use some of the early weeks for the outside runs so that the walk sections will help my chest. Any advice from fellow sufferers as I love my 3 runs a week?

I suffer terribly with it, if it gets really bad I use a squirt of beconase before my run, that seems to keep me free from it while out. I was prescribed it for everyday use but my doc suggested only using it when I really needed it. You can get it over the counter. Hope you find a resolution. Rfc x

Oh no I’m sorry, my husband is like that, apparently for some of the population that is the outcome of using it. They other one is I think called hays wax or something like that, you use it as a barrier and it stops the pollen getting in. Good luck, Rfc x

I personally don't have hay fever but my daughter has she has been told by the doctor to take an antihistamine daily from March right through to October, this may help with your running 😊

Beconase is a steroid and so, for optimal effect, should be used two puffs, each nostril, twice a day. It can take up to six weeks to be effective so should ideally be used throughout the hay fever season and started before the pesky pollen starts making you suffer. Although...it doesn’t work for everyone but give it chance by giving it time. Good luck.
