The Hebridean wind bloweth.

Today I did the first run of week 6.

A grey, wet and windy day here in the Hebrides, but the run must go ahead. I started out with the wind behind me, pushing me along the road and almost pushing me over in some parts. I got half way and turned to run home, wow. The wind was so strong, gusting up to 40mph, it felt like running through treacle. At the end I was more tired that ever before on a run, but when the call for the final 60 seconds was announced, I sped up and gave it my all.

This was an exhausting run but very fulfilling.

Absolutely loved the Hebrides when I spent a few weeks there back in '89. Most eerily beautiful landscapes I've ever seen. Sounds like a tough place to run though :)

Many days, the weather is just the same as the mainland, but when the wind blows it can be relentless.

We we're lucky with the weather, some snow but nothing that inconvenienced plans :)

One day we hitchhiked from Stornoway around the (totally amazing) Callanish Stones and on back to Stornoway. It took a long time, not because nobody stopped for us but because everyone was and we're so friendly we'd sit in the cars for ages just chatting. :)

It's a "definitely going back" place high on my list if I ever do retire fully :)

I know exactly what you mean! I used to live on the Isle of Skye and sometimes ran in horizontal rain and strong winds - crazy weather!
