After January graduation I’ve been plucking up the courage to go to my local park run. Fairly confident after weeks of consolidating my 30 mins. But still a slow coach! Approached the start with butterflies in my tummy. Listened to the newbie briefing and before I knew was off on my first timed race. What a great experience, friendly,supportive, doable! Came 218 out of 258 and feel chuffed. 35 mins is okay. I feel optimistic that I’ll get my time down now knowing the people, the course, the set up. Go join one I say. 🏃🏻‍♀️💖

Isn’t parkrun brilliant I push myself at parkrun and got under 34 .... after 10 parkrun ‘s , during the week I just put km on the legs and not worry about time too much , weekly times run is great motivation I’ve even registered for a 5 k , for somebody who started running my driveway in the dark so nobody would see me 💪🤪😉

Yes parkrun is brilliant. Welcoming, inclusive and brilliantly organised. 35 minutes is great well done. I've done 4 since I graduated recently. I'll parkrun every week when I can. Everyone should do it, you can't finish last because every parkrun has a tail walker bringing up the rear 😊

Parkrun addict here! 28 completed since graduating in May last year. Great time, well done! You’re right, your time will come down: my first run time was pretty similar to yours but I’ve taken 7 minutes off over the months. I find I run quicker at Parkrun and it’s the only time I get negative splits. Also, do longer runs - they help psychologically as well as physically - 5km is much easier when you regularly do 10km.

It will all come in time, as will new friends and a completely brilliant start to your weekend each week 😁

Well done! I have just started parkruns too, did my third yesterday and have gone quicker each time too. ☺️

I’m still slow and bring up the end of the pack, but my last run was a 34:04 so I’m edging closer to that 30 min mark. 🤞

I find it ticks so many boxes as well as the keeping fit aspect, it’s got a great atmosphere and having a weekly thing keeps me motivated.

I find I can just push myself just a little more each time, so I’m sure you will be able to as well. Just not being a newbie and knowing the course seemed to help too. Enjoy 😊

I'm like you regarding the parkruns. Ran my 3rd yesterday after my recent c25k graduation and amazed myself by shaving 2 minutes off my PB with a sub 33 minutes. Not sure all runs will feel as good as yesterday 😂😂 Well done to all of us 😀

Well done on your first parkrun, they are addictive. I ran my first parkrun two years ago in 35 mins for my graduating C25K run. Now 75 runs, later my PB is 24.41. Try NHS podcasts for speed and stamina, they helped me. 😁🏃🏻‍♀️💪

Brilliant!!

Think that’s what I need now, graduated a couple of weeks ago, running around 40 mins now 3 times a week but feel I need company or new surroundings

Parkruns are so motivating because everyone has their own time to aim for. It took a few weeks for me to get sub30. It shows how you’re getting fitter too. 👏

I signed up but haven’t made it down to one. I’m worried it’s going to be way too crowded!! (I live in London) tell me running in a crowd is ok :)

Gets the adrenaline pumping for sure. I fell

Into stride behind someone doing my pace. Then someone did the same to me on the way back. The runners spread out quickly and you’re left running your own race. Totally recommend it. Sense of achievement and banking exercise early on a Saturday is always a good thing.

Try starting at the back for your first one DeeTray , and then you can find your own pace.

35 minutes is great! I did my first Park run yesterday and it was the first time I’ve actually covered the 5k and it took me 45 minutes. Really well done. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable thing to do isn’t it

I'm also thinking of trying a Park Run after graduating in January. I'm waiting for some better weather so probably in April. It was good to read your post.

Just go for it Motowngirl Weather was perfect on Saturday. Sunny and 10 degrees. Loved it.

probably put a few off on here, coming in late and near the end of the runners , But with such a great time is not so good for the 45 minute brigade.

Our last people come in in an hour and they still get cheered on. Everyone should be proud to take part, even if they walk it.

Another Parkrun addict here, having started the Saturday after graduation. If I can’t run, I volunteer- that’s very satisfying too. It’s nice to give something back. I’ve also got faster having done juju’s magic plan to 10k.
