Does anyone ever feel really anxious before going on a run, to the point were you dont do it because you might fail?

Yes every time. It’s mind over matter. Keep going you know you can do it.

Absolutely! I have to set a time at least the day before when I’m going to do it and psych myself up. I always have the thought “not sure I’ll manage it” but I always do. I try to think about how quickly the minutes go in the rest of the day and the fact that I’m not working etc :-) As they say, stick to the program and very tough but makes you that bit more physically and mentally stronger.

Yes, every time I butter myself up and wrestle the Lycra on. But I think, if I don’t go, there’s a 100% chance of failing. If I do go, and fail, then I’ll just limp home and sulk about it for a while, end up rationalising, and go back out and try again.

You can do this! If I can - you can!! The trick for me was learning to run slowly. Since discovering the ‘Japanese slow jogging movement’ (search for it on youtube) it’s really helped me - a lot. I’m also not worried about learning to run faster (I’m slowly adding time to eventually be able to run 5k). What c25k does is carefully train you to run for 30 minutes. For some of us slower runners we’ll probably never run 5k in 30 mins. But what we can do is run for 30 mins. So don’t worry about distance, don’t worry about speed. Learn to run slowly and you will be able to do this. Last time I ran I faked an asthma attack in school to get off a cross country run!! Never thought I’d be able to do this. But here I am aged 53 running for 30 mins! Even ran for 35 last week.

Trust the programme - it stretches you, but then consolidates your progress then stretches you again. Before you know it you’ll be running for 30 minutes too!

Well done for getting this far - stick at it - and amaze yourself! x

Becoming a runner is a mental battle. Okay, you might get fit, you might even lose some weight. But getting fit and losing weight is an excuse for running. We were actually born to run, it's the modern world's lies that convince us we can't or shouldn't.

And it's quite natural that, after a horrid illness like BPPV, that battle is going to be a bit harder. But hang on in there!

I think I'm now at the point where I am more scared of going back to the couch.

It is impossible to fail this plan unless you head back to the couch permanently.

Not completing a workout is in no way a failure.

Read this healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and relax.

You can do this.

Thanks for the link. It's comforting to know I'm not alone in my negative thinking. I need to do a bit of work in that lol! But I'm going to do this. I look forward to the day i do my first Parkrun and the charity 5k I've signed up for.

Yes, pretty much every time. I have to do my first 25 mins tomorrow and I’m really nervous.

Every single run I do I get super anxious, I’m hoping it will get better as I improve

Oh yes, return of the Panic Moth fluttering about ! I know it well. The only cure is to get out there and crush it. The more you think the worse you’ll feel. Just remember the First Rule of C25k: The only run you fail is the run you don’t go for. You can do this: we’re all right here with you x
