Parkrun Pain

Today was a paced event at our local Parkrun in Navan. My 9 year old Son Oisin and I were up early and looking forward to running on a gorgeous gin clear frosty morning. We were on a mission for a PB. Oisin got a sub 30 min time last weekend and I wanted to join him. We were going to follow Derek whom was the 30 minute pacer.

All was going well, until at the 1 km mark Oisin tripped and landed on his hands and knees. He cried a little but dusted himself off after a little break. We carried on and finished in 31:30. No PB but I’m proud that he had the courage to get up again and go, and finish. He got loads of encouragement at the finish line. I love Parkrun.

Lovely post Damien...and what an absolute star Oisin is!🌟

That PB will come another day, but for now that shows strength and determination and you and he must feel very proud of his Parkrun today!

Still a very fast time 😊xxx

You will both get there.

I think it is brilliant for youngsters to be running with parents at an event like parkrun.

You, and the parkrun movement, are instilling so many excellent core values in these kids................they will be formidable (in the best sense of the word) adults.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Ouch! And well done Oisin for dusting himself off and carrying on, especially with such an early blow to the mission.

You have just deferred the pleasure of that PB 🙂
