New Year, New Me in Mind & Body!

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted and about 5 weeks since my graduation but I'm pleased to report my running x3 a week is now paying dividends! I've started to drop lbs in my weekly weigh in, I've almost dropped down a dress size, but best of all I really can see myself as a runner now and love how good I feel after each run, both physically and mentally. The runs are starting to become easier and some of them are even enjoyable tho I still find myself clock watching from around 20 mins in! I can't at the moment see how I'd run longer than 30 mins and not sure I run 5K so my next challenge is to remember to turn on the app to track my distance! Happy running all.

Very well done! As it keeps getting easier you’ll come to a point where you feel going faster or longer is very doable. The road to 5k is harder than the one from 5 to 10k. That physical and mental well being that you’re feeling though... that’s the reason we did this... there’s no better feeling. Happy running.

I do feel some runs are getting easier, but it just doesn't happen on consecutive runs so I'm unsure how each run will be when I first start off.

Happy Running to you.

That’s pretty normal... we are still relatively new runners and the programme is pushing our fitness up, so a tiny almost invisible change of pace can make a difference to how the run feels.

All good news MrsH1969. I made the mistake of trying to get to 5k too quickly after graduating and when I got there, I tried to run 5k every run at a faster and faster speed; didn't work! Just go for a gradual build up. I have increased distance by running more slowly for longer period of times and building it up in stages. You will see Ju-ju's plan referred to on Bridge to 10k. That operates on the basis of a shorter run, followed by a longer one followed by "the long run" each week. I use the shorter run to increase speed, and I run the long run up to 1 minute per K slower than my short run speed. No need to put yourself under pressure to extend the distance, you are doing brilliantly. 😊

Thank you! and thank for your sound advice/insight. The different types of run you do each week do sound appealing and doable for me. Happy Running to you.

Well done!!! That’s brilliant! I graduated at the beginning of December and have been running consolidation runs for the last month 3x a week. I’m the same as you I can’t see myself running for more than 30 mins and I’m no where near 5k as my average pace is only 8.25mins per km so I’d need at least another 10 mins of running. Ah well at least I’m still going that’s the main thing 😁 good luck with your running

A year ago who would have thought we'd be running x3 a week, every week?!? I've only ever said I want to run to keep fit not for racing, but I'm getting more and more curious as to how far I am running in the 30mons. Good luck on your running too!
