Week 3 and still smiling😁😁

So I am on week 3 of the programme and doing ok. I am way overweight but working on that also! However why do complete strangers feel the need to shout abuse at you running? This has happened to me 3 times now and I find it so demoralizing. Luckily for me I have a great support network at home and at work that are keeping me positive. Just joined the community tonight so hopefully will find more inspiration from people here too😁

I have frequented this forum for a number of years now ( I am in Australia) and all I can say is that this type of behaviour seems to me to be a British "thing" ??? This is of course no help to you.

Maybe I should move to Oz!

Earphones in, music pounding ( I use ultimate running songs compilation),cap pulled down and you can then assume people are shouting encouragement! Keep smiling - you are a runner, they are not and you have all this community with you 🙌🏃‍♀️👏

Thanks for the music tip. At the moment I run along quite dark streets so am doing it without music so I can hear around me. Once the evenings get lighter I'm going to give it a try😁

Btw got the music recommendation title wrong. It’s The Nation’s Favourite Running Songs.

Welcome and well done so far.

There’s always idiots out there... but to them you’re dumb... running takes effort and commitment and that type of person has neither... we should feel sorry for them really... I’d just smile at them, and laugh at them later in private. You’re changing your life and that’s the important thing. You have support and encouragement at home, here and in the bigger running community. A runner will never put you down, they’ll congratulate you for running, offer advice and encouragement and while doing so they will remember the start of their journey too. Keep smiling and happy running.

Thanks for that. First time someone has called me a runner! Sounds strange but good😁

Well done to you and good on you for carrying on! There is some horrid people out there, but that’s just a ugly reflection on them. I love your positivity keep going ☺️

Grit and determination will always beat idiotic comments. Thanks for the support😁

That’s so awful! I bet they could not do what you are doing. Do you own some headphones? Put them in and then you don’t have to listen to such single minded people. Keep going, you’re getting out there and those endorphins will keep your mind positive. Well done you 😄👍

Your right it's amazing how much better you feel when you have completed a run. In a strange way they are making me more determined!

Remember the mantra we have here: "out there don't care!" Some of us suffer abuse from people, but this is mainly because they don't understand that we're bettering ourselves. For me, I've only had positive remarks, but then being a shade over 6 foot tall, I think people assume I'll be able to run after them if they get gobby!

You've done well so far, bigbum. To quote the mentor: keep running, keep smiling. 👍

Not sure if I can smile through the panting yet! I'll give it a go

Smiling and nodding come naturally after week four. You get advice on it from your trainer in week five run one. They also tell you about how to eat canapés and what the best chocolate to dip strawberries in is, and an extra expensive type for when the queen visits.

Well done on getting to week 3! I would just say thank you to them as if you thought it was a compliment. What a bunch of idiots. Anyway soon you'll be running so far and fast they wont even have time to register you. Sorry you've experienced that but don't let them put you off, you're doing great!

Fingers crossed I will sprinting past them soon😁

Sprint? Don't swear at me. We run. Jog. Or in my case, meander. Sprint? SPRINT?!? FAAAAUGH!!!

Cars honk me and people shout unpleasant things at me quite often - and I’m thin. People who would do such a mean thing aren’t worth worrying about. You are out there, you’re doing it and the people who matter are supporting you and proud of you. And we’re all proud of you too 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Hey well done for getting as far as you have ive only done one run upto yet. The negative comments from idiots might make you feel pants and like you want to give up DONT. Ive had a few crappy comments from so called friends and its just given me that little bit more determination to flick the v's and prove them wrong. Your not doing it to please these pillocks your doing it to better yourself you go girl from one fat bottomed girl to another keep up the hard work xx

To quote fat bottom girls you make the rockin' world go round! And that we do. Thanks for the support and good luck to you too xx

They do actually: there's an entire field of theoretical physics devoted to the effect of fat bottomed girls on the gravitational power and effect on the spin speed of the earth provided by them. It's been theorised that if we shipped enough fat bottomed girls to mars it would increase the rotation of the planet, therefore increasing the magnetic field generated and protecting the surface from solar radiation. Honestly, NASA just needs to figure out the whole 'breathing on the surface without dying quickly' and I'm buying time share!

I’m starting week 3 on Saturday and I’m a bit nervous about it. I’m way overweight too but finding this experience inspiring , it helps with my physical state but more importantly with my mental state too ! Wow wish I had done this years ago. You keep strong and remember we are all in this together. Abuse from idiots is degrading .... not for you but for them. Run girl run 🏃‍♀️ I’ll be following you 😀(a run or two behind 😂)

Fatbottomgirl profile image
FatbottomgirlGraduate in reply to Kalabria

I was really nervous too but I was lucky, my husband who is a regular runner came out with me and supported me round the whole way. Once I had done it once the 2nd run was far less intimidating. Like you I am finding it helps me focus the mind and clear the crap of the day out of my brain. I'm so busy trying to breath I cannot think of anything else😁 the support from this group has been so positive I feel ready to face any comment from any idiot. We are doing our best and everyone else can just deal with it. We may be big but we are strong girls and we will do this. Well done and good luck with week 2 🤞🤞😁😁

Some people are naturally vile and unkind , how dare they shout abuse at you 🤬 Don’t give them any more thought , hold your head up high & enjoy your running 👍

Fatbottomgirl profile image
FatbottomgirlGraduate in reply to Darcyduck

My confidence is increasing with each run. I may not be Mo Farrah but I'm out there and I'm doing it. Perhaps deep down they are jealous of my awesome figure plodding around the streets in lycra!!😂😂

I have to say that, as a fellow newbie, I'm looking at runners a bit differently now (until a fortnight ago I thought you were all utterly crazy!!!). Now the ones who are good at it I think "wow, good on you" and the ones who aren't so good I think "wow, good on you!").

ps - my running is all done either at park run (where people couldn't be more encouraging) or on a dark field with headphones and music turned up full!

Fatbottomgirl profile image
FatbottomgirlGraduate in reply to Pianism

I know it's funny how I look at every runner I see now. The good ones I look at and think one day that could be me. The not so good ones make me want to cheer them on🤗 I think we are all crazy for doing it but I quite like being crazy😜😜
