5k, do I qualify?

So I am running 5k at the gym but have to stop sometimes does this mean I qualify?

Furthest run 4:48 miles 🏃🏻‍♂️ on the tread mill 51.01 minutes fastest 1k 5:38

What I have found is that the tread mills I am aware are not accurate with their metrics and come up way short compared to my Apple Watch ⌚️, maybe to keep willing victims in the gym hehe to reach their PB’s

I also think that I find running outside better and easier, anyone have any thoughts on this?

Ps-I am also gearing up to join some local running groups who do interval training, sprints and hills to build up for the local half marathon

Welcome to the forum.

The objective of C25K program is to get folks off the couch and able to run for 30 minutes, three times per week. Despite the catchy name, distance does not come into it.

So you probably qualify, yes.

If your objective is to train for a HM, you may also want to check out the Bridge to 10k forum, and the Marathon Running and Race Training group.

Where are these forums you speak of?, are they on this site or something separate, I have looked at the park run stuff but thought it just for women.

Sorry - “just” ? There’s no “just” on this forum. Go wash your mouth out 😄

Or I suppose that should be “Go wash your hands”, but it doesn’t have quite the same effect somehow !

Have you looked at doing Park Runs, totally free and an excellent way of measuring your progress.

Qualify for what?

I was wondering that. Is the question actually “I haven’t done any of the programme but I can run 5k, so can I call myself a graduate ?” If so, I’m guessing the answer would be no !

Absolutely!!

I'd like to call myself a graduate of Harvard Business school.......could come in handy some time.........never been there.........but why not?

What were you actually asking then ? I can tell I must have misunderstood you and now I’m confused 😐😀

I was asking if you started the Programe but ran 5k without using the Programe and the lovely voice of Wiley could you call yourself a honorary C25k graduate 👨🏻‍🎓 who has passed with flying colours?

So am I right in thinking that this app will help you on your journey to run 5k non stop continuously as I am sure the first weeks were just interval running jogging 🏃🏻‍♂️ or 3-5 minutes, because I know it may take me 40 minutes plus to run 5k as I do know someone mentioned it is just so you can run or jog for 30 minutes which I am sure I would struggle to do 5k in and it is more like just a help for people to attain that 5k goal by doing that 30 minutes?

Sorry if I am jumping the gun here but if it is then I think it is still a great idea

Now I understand - at least, I think I do ! The idea of Couch to 5k is to enable total beginners to learn to run gradually. The final target is to be able to run continuously for 30 minutes. For some people that’s more than 5k and for others it can be a fair bit less. Being able to run 5k doesn’t make you a graduate unless you’ve also completed all 27 runs. Completing all 27 runs makes you a graduate, regardless of whether you can run the full 5k, because otherwise the programme would be discriminatory against people with short legs (like me)or who live in particularly hilly places. Does that help ? Hope so ! Happy running x

So it discriminates against people running in hilly places. It is just I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing as some hills go up as well as down.

No, it doesn’t discriminate against people on hills - that’s why the goal is a time measurement, not a distance one ! Although downhills are some consolation, absolute beginners who have to face hills are at an initial disadvantage.

I might do a 5k sky dive and see what my time would be then I am sure a weight advantage might help.

I am ofcourse only joking 🙃 and am taking my training very seriously including using this forum and 5k app to run 🏃🏻‍♂️ continuaously for 30 minutes non stop the other 10k and marathon forums look interesting I wonder if they will add these additional options to the app at some point.
