Hi fellow runners, and Happy New Year to you all!

I've just got back from my first run of 2019, 11 days since my last run (naughty) and a year to the day since completing C25K. It's amazing to think that just a year ago I completed that last 30 minute run of week 9 with tired legs and all out of breath, when today after an 11 day break I could run an easy 6.5k in 35 minutes and held a conversation all the way round.

2018 saw my 50th birthday, my fitness level improved dramatically and I dropped almost 1st in weight. I went from running 5k in 30 minutes to 5k in just over 21 minutes, my longest run was 15.5k and I ran a total of almost 900km.

Goals for this year: Reach HM distance, run a 5k Park Run in under 20 minutes, run 10k in under 45 minutes..........

To all who are either on the programme or thinking of doing it, I urge you to push yourself to complete it. Believe me, you will be glad you did.

Keep up the good work! :)

Hi Mike,

I turned 50 last week and my current lifetime running goal is go sub-20 for 5k. Your 5k progress is superb - my advice would be to do plenty of interval work combined with much longer slow runs. But take plenty of rest days - very important at our age!

Our trajectories are v similar! But I did C25K in early 2015 ... My parkrun PB is 20:41 and track is 20:31 ... but both achieved 18 months ago. Marathons are my current focus... trained for London earlier this year (got injured but still managed to get round in 4h:16) but along the way did 3 HM races and got a PB of 1:39:44 in the last one before London. (And a 10K PB of 44:57 the year before)

Good luck!

John

Hi John,

Welcome to club 50!!

Impressive times there, especially for the HM. My aim for that is under 2 hours.......

My Park Run PB was 21:11 and I did that on my second attempt just after my 50th birthday. My PB for 10k is 48:21.

I am lucky to have access to a qualified running coach via the running club at work. He and I are following his plan with a view to entering a 10k later this year.......

Happy running!

With a 5k PB of 21:11, then sub 45 for 10k should be very doable!

Good luck!

That’s impressive Mike, I’ve been a follower of you for the past year and you continue to amaze me. You say a HM in under 2hrs? I’d wager around 1.45 🤗

Keep up the good work.....I suppose I should put a post up 😊

Hi Ted!

We finished C25K around the same time I think, and you have amazed me with your running, especially doing the GNR in your first year!

Those are very impressive times Mike, congratulations. I'm just getting back into running, having graduated several years ago, and I'm facing THAT big birthday this year! Personally, if I could do 5K in under 30 minutes I would be very happy. I'm trying a different approach this time around, with lots of gym sessions and classes thrown into the mix, but I'm really enjoying the running (lots of short ones just now, to get used to it again). Have a great year. I look forward to reading how you get on. Happy running.

Thank you! It's a shame you stopped running. I can't imagine not running now as it brings me so much. Good luck with the programme and I hope to see you at the finish line soon! 😎

Thanks Mike. It has been quite the year for many of us. It is amazing what C25k can lead to, when you catch the running bug 😁. Right now, I'm just trying to survive winter, maintain some distance in my legs, staring longingly at my new lovely new hydration vest, dreaming of glorious trail runs again this summer and achieving some new distances again. Although, I may've been caught wearing my vest around the house while trying to figure out how to stow my poles on the fly and doing little mini jogettes up and down the hallway to see if they stayed put. Hubby thought I was a little nuts 😂
