The Last Leg of the Alzheimer’s Challenge

On the left is JCR (me) on the right, super runner Razouski who joined me today in St James’s Park to run my final 5km to meet my target 2018kms in 2018.

Virtually running with me - well really running with me, but just not in London were (to my knowledge):-

Mummycav

Hidden

Tartancat

SuzyKK

IgaT

Mimirossi

TailChaser

What can I say about the day? Starting off with butterflies in my stomach, because I wanted my run to go well and of course it did, I was with my running buddy Razouski (sorry Gill it won’t let me tag you twice). Mummycav had changed a hair appointment to make sure she ran with me, and other running friends changed their days to do a ‘support run’ too. The run was fab, Gill was fab, Mr JCR was fab, the weather mainly fab - cold but blue skies, and the after run bubbles were fab too, but the most fab thing is I’ve met my target for raising the £2018 for Alzheimers Research, in fact with the generosity of friends here and in my other life, and family it’s been exceeded.

It seemed a momentous day and it was a lovely, lovely run. I can’t tell you how overwhelmed I’ve been by the support for my run throughout the year, with support, encouragement and donations. I have a big thank you list for all my C25K buddies. I can remember ‘coming out’ with my intention to do the run and to finish on Christmas Eve, and it was Realfoodieclub who said she never doubted, I’d do it.

Her faith hasn’t been misplaced although in truth I may have misplaced mine from time to time.

A proper and full thank you post will follow. But I just wanted to say on Christmas Eve that you often don’t realise who your friends are, until you face a challenge. And I’m both proud and delighted to be a tiny cog in this wonderful, wonderful friendly place.

Thank you my running friends, and a Merry Christmas and Peaceful New Year.

Congratulations, a nice photo of your and Razouski's leggings and trainers, makes your Christmas all the merrier.

Hi - it had to be done - snazzier leggings make the run easier in my opinion....

Blimey Jan that is utterly awesome. I remember you starting out and thinking what a lovely and worthwhile thing to do but that you must be a bit bonkers trying to achieve that in a year.... purely based, I hasten to add, on putting myself in your shoes and thinking 'aaaaargh, never!'. But you've only gone and blinkin' done it!! Just completely and totally a-maz-ing. The things that you can achieve when you put your mind to it. I hope that you are very proud of yourself, as you absolutely should be - and we all are :) . What next?!

in reply to Fishypieface

Thanks Fishypieface - I am a bit bonkers, and can also be very bloody minded when I need to be. Mr JCR did ask me in December last year whether I’d really calculated what it meant and of course I hadn’t!!! I’m proud of sticking at it, but I absolutely couldn’t have done it without the moral support from friends here, there and everywhere. I quite fancy boxing ;) but have to keep on running, I’ve had two days off, and it feels quite odd to have looked at my running kit drawer - yes I have one (so sad) and thought no not today! I promised Mr JCR 2 weeks off, but the old legs seem to have acclimatised to 40km+ a week, so I may open the kit drawer tomorrow. Thanks for the lovely comments and I hope you have a great Christmas break and a Happy New Year

Hi Jan, I had got out of the habit of looking at the posts in this forum. Many many congratulations, an amazing achievement. 👍🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ x

Thanks Chris - enjoying a few days off , but the running tights are calling me ;)

I'm currently running 50 5ks in 50 days for the Children's Cancer Fund at Newcastle RVI, only on day 6 so I can appreciate how hard it must have been to run all those KMs in one year!!

in reply to ChrisAllen1

That’s a challenge too, I couldn’t cope with streak running I got up to 8 days I think and then totally collapsed, but knowing what I know now, I probably tried doing it too early in my challenge. Well done you all power to your legs for the rest of your efforts. Brilliant challenge

Razouski profile image

Chris that sounds like a tough challenge. I’venever Even attempted streak running. Good luck.

Fabulous. What an achievement! Great to read about your awesome goal for 2018 👏 What's on next year? A rest or another goal?

in reply to BaddieThePirate

I’m still going to run, just not quite so far and of course I can't ask friends for even more cash - they’ll start running away from me. The challenge has to stand as a significant effort, but I think I’ll still probably end up running over 1500kms in 2019... but I do fancy boxing.... not sure there is a B25K forum...

Many congratulations JCR! ⭐️Can we see the video of your run that the charity made?

in reply to CatMo13

Let me dig it out - are you sure you want to see the arse end of a middle aged female runner though? If so - I’ll do it!

Haha - well I don’t want to force you 😂. I thought I’d read on here that they were making a little film and that it would be available to the big wide world web😱😬

That stuff at times is priceless. I had an outing with some of my mob once and we looked like that scene from a Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest when Randle McMurphy took the crew out for a day trip. Academy award material.

Lol. In our heads we’re Paula Radcliffe/Alistair Brownlee.
