Hi all.

Congratulations to all those who have come before me, and to my father ‘I apologise for all the mean things I said about you being unfit while I was in my teens’

I’ve just completed week five and can understand as I’m now in my mid forty’s how hard it is to start exercising and then to maintain and increase stamina, I miss my youth.

This all started for me when I made a decision to try and get rid of my type 2 diabetes. First came the near starving calorie level and now the fitness levels.

I was so pleased with myself completing week 5 after three attempts, but I understand what I was doing wrong, week six should mentally at least feel easier.

I just wanted to to say hi, and good luck to all who are pushing to complete this challenge.

Howdy Silverwolf ! Well done for sticking with it. It’s surprising to me, also mid-40s, how limited my fitness is. I can walk all day without trouble but after 8 weeks I still can’t jog all the runs in week 1 ! It’s always good to challenge yourself - stops your mind getting old. Enjoy your journey x

Just keep trying, I’ve had to repeat or postpone more than a few runs up till now, I can’t see myself not needing to do it again.

It can’t always be helped. You’re right - a miss here and there is not the same as giving up !

It's scary how our fitness ebbs away as we get older without us even realising, but amazing that this programme can help us get it back, with interest 😊

Keep on beating that type 2 diabetes into submission. You can do this!

I've just today completed my first 10k. And I'm going to say what so many have said before me - if I can do it anyone can. It's like a little personal miracle!

Well that was my target at the start of the year. I’m settling for the 5k and 10k next year and possible more

What’s your opinion on running machines vs road running?

Tartancat profile image
TartancatGraduate in reply to Silverwolf74

I'm the wrong person to ask! I've never used a treadmill, and don't do much on the road. I'm really lucky in that there are loads of trails and footpaths right on my doorstep. I can tell you though that road running is much quicker than trail running!

You are lucky, haven’t got anything like that near me although I do have a park with a mile track, should give it a go.

Very well done 👏👍 enjoy the following weeks, stay curious and keep experimenting, and don’t beat yourself up for trying something if it doesn’t work. Don’t push yourself to the point of injury, run for tomorrow. It’s all a learning experience and at this stage it’s just about getting to the end of week 9 - not distance or pace. That’ll come in time. Hope to see you on the Bridge to 10K soon! 😁🤞🏻
