Work-related stress 1 : 0 Run

This morning for the first time ever I had to give up five minutes into my run. Not because it was particularly hard, but because I couldn't think of anything else than precious time going by in a crazy week, and of all the things not yet done that have a firm deadline tomorrow. After a few minutes the pressure was so strong I began to cry. I decided to turn back and head home.

Feeling pretty deflated about it though.

Oh gosh! It happens... don't beat yourself up about it.

Your body and mind spoke.. you listened... make the list of priority jobs and tick them off as you do them.. but.... make sure at some point, you reward yourself with a run after that deadline has passed. It needn't be long it needn't be fast... I often sneak just 1K in... it's enough.

Slow and steady applies to many more things other than running:) x

Firm deadline tomorrow and then you can equalise by running the stresses back off. Sometimes life means we can’t get a run in. You got 5 minutes in... that’s a run... when there’s no more time in a day, there’s 5 minutes or 10 minutes that we can find.

Hi. Hope you're feeling in better spirits today. I know how you feel - my job can be stressful too. Can you go for a run/walk instead now that the big deadline has gone? I don't know how you feel about mindfulness but it has (& still does) helped me cope with my job & other life problems. There is a brilliant app called Insight Timer which has meditations, music, talks for everyone. It's good to use while doing some morning stretches. Some people use the Nike app with mindful running feature. Be kind to yourself, stop and take some deep breaths. Be grateful that you can run - your body is amazing & you are too. X

Thank you ! I'll look at that app. (I'm not sure if you won't think I'm crazy, but I'm a vicar and I sometimes run listening at morning prayer – quite funny when you're huffing a response just when people show up on the path !)

Glad to hear you sneaked a run in this morning and hope it sets you up for the day. I don't think you're crazy at all - although I'm smiling at the idea of the responses! Insight Timer has some christian meditations as well as some in French which I find a welcome change for the intonation and expression. Hope you have a positive week. Look after yourself!

Thank you very much, Oldfloss, UNM and Slinkymalinki, for your advice and wise words ! The week-end was stressful but great, yesterday was a truly awful day for a lot of reasons, but I got a good 30 minutes in this morning, and it felt wonderful !
