This is the one I bombed out at 2 years ago. healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Not going to say it hasn't preyed on my mind a bit since. Could never really get going again after that, felt I had gone as far as I could 😒..

but I've just gone further!!! πŸ˜ŠπŸš€πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Though the demons did make me work for it...

First 10 minutes went great, took it steady, and found it go by pretty quickly. Spotted a cockapoo with no owner down by the bowling green on the park, and even managed to tell it's owner where it was on my way back up. Worst part of my route there too with steps, gravel and tarmac all uphill, but kept going throughout. Downhill then to my last ever walking segment and too much thinking time, stupidly glanced at my band with 20 seconds to go...

I know the 5k pace for 30 mins is sub 9:39 per mile, I'm at around 0.95miles when Laura chirps back in for the walk. Quickly scold myself for not trying it a little faster, then scold myself again for even thinking about it. The pace doesn't matter!!!!.. Slow and steady.. slow & steady...

Priority check done, and a steady walk to my turning point at the roundabout...

Second 10 minutes pushed me hard, first 1k of it all gradual uphill, and although I didn't find it too much trouble, I developed a bit of a stomach pain on my right hand side at the top of dog πŸ’© alley. Slowed down the pace a bit to recover from the hill but the pain stayed with me for the duration. Almost felt like the feeling you can get before a stitch. From then to the finish, it felt like I was going at a snails pace but I was determined that this one wouldn't get me again.

With 3 mins left to do I was struggling with it & the demon was on my shoulder laughing & I had one last short but steep hill to face, but kept it steady and thankfully took it home...

Probably daft, but feels like a massive weight off my shoulders, and looking forward to seeing what comes on Friday now. (He says, now the stomach pain has gone 🀣)

Feel a little in awe of it right now, but will feel like another massive milestone if I can last it out. 🀞

cheers uncle_wiggy ! Will do, heading to Mexico for 2 weeks in December and would love to have graduated and still be running out there by then. That's the reward anyway!

Congratulations!!! You beat that demon!!! I am so proud of you, I hope you are celebrating now your huge achievement. Slow and steady, pace will come later, after graduation. For now, our goal is to run for 30 min, 5k will come during consolidation ;)

Bravo!

LOVE this post! Well done!! (not just on the post). You achieved so much today I'm not surprised you are in awe of yourself! You've blasted through that barrier now, there is no turning back. R3 Friday?

sHAYM4NGraduate in reply to jiggles7

Thanks @jiggles7 the rest of the runs have felt like a bit of a fight to get to this point as it really was something I wanted to face again. Yup that's the plan for R3 Friday! Pastures new at last 😊

What an amazing post... WELL DONE :-D! I completed this run this morning and for the first time on this programme I found it really difficult, mainly mentally. I also did a bit of checking which I have promised myself I will stop from now on. I really needed to read this post... thank you and really really really well done to you!

Thanks Hattie27 and congrats on getting through it yourself too. Glad at least I'm not the only one having a naughty check on the pace 😊 I'll take it as a good sign, I'm just glad at that point I was looking at that rather than how long was left (which I'll admit I did too later on). From reading other posts, think many others have found this week more challenging than they expected - maybe it's underestimated after the milestone of W5R3. Anyway they're all milestones now, and hope you enjoy R3 a lot more than this one!

Well done SHAYM4N, better times now, interesting looking at the name's of the replies you got two years ago, I don't recognise any of them except yours, I suppose the reason for that is because C25K is basically a training course for beginners and they then go on to longer distances and say thanks to C25K. You could say that C25K is Primary School, 10K, High or Secondary School, half marathon is college and a full 26 mile marathon is university. 😊

Hah exactly, will admit I was always a bit jealous of those who were at the same stage I was at that time, and now seeing a graduate badge against their name 🀣 Hopefully may catch up with some of them in the High School one day!

Great job demon slayer. Your old nemesis would always have to potential to be a mental wall, it was always likely to be a tough one, but now it’s history. You got this.

Well done for resisting the wish to go faster. And well done on seeing it out!

Graduate first. Get speedier later.

Love this! Well done. I really struggled with that run too for some reason. It's actually made me dread tomorrow's run....a full 25 mins...arrggghh. Hopefully it'll be fine..just have to keep it slow and steady. We can increase pace after we've graduated :-)

sHAYM4N profile image
sHAYM4NGraduate in reply to MDaw35

hah feel exactly the same right now and due to run it in 5 mins. Im not dreading it, just feel really nervous about it for some reason!

I swerved it this morning...contemplating doing it tonight rather than tomorrow morning. My 4 year was up a few times in the night. Let me know how it goes.

Best of luck! Turn that dread into a challenge & you'll do it fine! Just finished it, and without doubt my favourite yet 😊
