Postgrad run 4 : back to the hills

Vacation over, I'm back to my Swiss hiking paths!

That run was a bit of a mixed bag. I had tight calves which didn't want to loosen, and after a while I entered that "mental game" territory where the mind has to convince the body that indeed, it can run and already has done so plenty of times.

On the other hand, I liked being back on the hills. It brings a nice variety to the course - beware, big hill coming up, let's shorten the stride ; ok, that's over, now there's that nice downhill slope to rest a bit before the next hill ; next is that bit of flatish path with the slight uphill gradient towards the end...

The forest is putting on its autumn colours. That alone made the run worth it !

Lovely autumn colours, are you over Geneva way? We live in Wengen in BE. I prefer the hills too - all my best runs have been on mountain trails.

I live near Neuchâtel, on the Jura slopes. It's a beautiful region, but not as stunning as Wengen ! Running there must be such a pleasure !

Oh yes it’s nice here, but you have the lake too! No room for a lake in Wengen 😂

True, we've got the lake (and even a tiny boat on it) ! But even from the lake we only get to see the Alps from far away, on clear days. Can't have everything ! 😉

Another Swiss runner here - well for half the year anyway. The rest of the time we’re in gloomy London. We’re in the Portes du Soleil, so choosing flattish routes is a big challenge! Best time of year is definitely autumn as the colours are something else.

Portes du Soleil - that's the Chablais isn't it? I lived not too far away for some time, but on the French side. Those mountains are spectacular but there's indeed not much flat ground, unless you know how to run on water !
