Week 5 Run 3 you little beast!!

I have a cold threatening to bench me to the IC but I’ve been dosing myself with vicks first defence and flu tablets in the hope of keeping it away from my chest. 🤧🤧So far so good and I decide to run today any way. 🤧🏃‍♀️🤧It was the big 20 min run and I’ve been dreading it for weeks. WEEKS! It was pouring this morning but we had our new waterproof running jackets so off we went....they were not waterproof, but in fairness it was also torrential rain. Definitely the wettest we’ve been while running so far. The first 5 mins of the run were torture, my legs were aching and then my back started protesting and Michael tells me I’ve done the first 5 mins I swear they were the longest 5mins of my life. By the time I hit the 10 min mark I’m still struggling but hey this is the longest time I’ve ever spent running, 12 mins in and the aches melt away and I’m just running. My breathing is fine I’m not even huffing and I’m just going! I have a flashback to week 1 run 1 where I can’t even do the 8x1 min runs with intervals. The progress is so real! Michael tells me I have 2 mins remaining. I wish he hadn’t. I felt fine up to then but then he told me I would be tired and suddenly I was. Pollock. The last two mins were a real feat of mind over body. I’m reminding myself I’m not out of breath the whole time and that I’m actually fine. Today I ran for 20 solid minutes and so did Duck. Woop! Bring on week 6! 🎉🤩😎

Congratulations on running C25K with week 5 run 3, onwards and upwards for week 6 run 1, but be careful about that run, it catches out some people with the 🚶 walking intervals. 🚶🤔🏃

Thank you! How does it catch you out? I have seen this mentioned a few times. What do I need to watch out for?

It catches people out, particularly if they go at a fast pace, there are walking intervals as well. After W5R3 they are not prepared to go back to the walks, so just be especially careful with run 1 and 2 of week 6, as they say here "slow and steady" 😊 and you should be OK. 🏃

Hah I certainly do not have a fast pace, i’m a very slow jogger. Ok so I do like a sprint finish-which I have been advised against (sad face times) 😫but other than that I am super slow.

Great job you two... and yeah, look at run one and then that... amazing. Enjoy week 6, careful with pace, and you got this.

Thanks UNM! We are loving this even though it’s hard. Really starting to resent rest days. I get jealous of other people running🤣🤣

Maybe... I’m tail walking junior park run... last time a kid walked around while the rest ran and I had to leg it to catch the next one up when the first tail quit... so I may have to delay, or kick some poor kids butt round a second lap if they try quitting 😂

Just don’t make them cry and I think you’ll be fine 😂

Of course we may complete the course in 60 minutes if the last little cherub decides to stroke every dog, look at the clouds and pick autumnal flowers en route... Junior Parkrun is unpredictable and just a wonderful thing to be a part of... who know if Sir Mo would have ran it at 4, maybe he’d be off doing handstands up a tree (yes, I’ve seen this happen) and so I’m not the guy who says “oi,this way” I’m the guy who says “you’re out here on Sunday morning to do 2k (eventually) and that’s actually quite amazing”

Thanks stevie! How are you finding the program?

I think it's great. I like how it gets progressively harder but achievable. I like that the next day I feel like I've exercised. I like that the third day I'm ready to run! Bring on w5r3

You will totally smash it! You just need to be dory on land “just keep running, just keep running”. It wasn’t as hard as I was expecting, it’s sure rising how prepared to are at this point especially when you think it’s not something you will ever do.

Hi jiggles7.

There are a number of posts showing people struggle with week 6 so keep your pace slow.

So take it steady and I hope to see you at the virtual finishing line as at this rate we will be graduating together 😸

Very well done 😸 Enjoy week 6!

Hey Katnap! Honestly I am taking it super slow, I’m not even breaking the rest day rule, much as it galls me! We are following the 3/6 plan. Cannot wait to see you at the finish. Are you considering bridge to 10k? I think I may get frustrated with the intervals again on Monday but much as I loathe Michael I obey his instructions. Hoping week 6 runs smoothly! How are you keeping?

My beloved is already on the bridge to 10k and will be graduating around the same time as we do for 5k.

I'm just looking forward to the parkrun graduation run next month 😸👟👟👟👟👟👟👟👟👟😸

Well done you !!! I was the same today, soaked to the skin but chuffed I managed it. Like you the first five minutes were hard but settled in to it and managed the twenty.Bring on week 6 !!

Well done to you too!! It’s not so bad getting wet after all, much as I usually hate being caught in the rain. Good luck with week 6!
