Sitting in the car now, chickened out of my run

So daughter has been in her dance class for 25 mins and I’m sitting in the car park in my car. It is just cold out there and I don’t want to take my puffa jacket off for a run. Yes I feel guilty and yes I feel annoyed but I think it’s a fair enough excuse, right?

I really need some more clothes for cool weather. I’ve got a neon yellow long sleeve top on (it was meant to be a run jacket but when it came in the post it’s too small to fit another top on underneath) plus my usual running leggings and I KNOW I’d get warmer when I ran but given the car tells me it is 6 degs outside, I just don’t want to {sticks tongue out like petulant child}

So can someone please give me motivation for the next time I don’t want to go out because it’s cold? And perhaps suggestions for clothes?!

I have this problem sometimes. I wear a light running jacket to start out and *always* have to take it off and tie it around my waist after the first 1K. But it gets me out of the door and by the time I get back I am thinking how lovely and mild the weather is. Sitting for long periods is the worst thing for feeling as if it's 'horrible and cold' out there I find.

Thanks - what jacket do you have please?

amazon.co.uk/dp/B072VN78LY?... It's not very stylish! I've never bothered about matching kit and the men's one works fine for me - it spends most of the time tied round my waist anyway and I also wear it on the bike. It is fairly breathable for the price.

Thank you! I’m not matching either and I like that lime green 😅

I ran this morning. For me, according to NRC, it was 7degs a bit damp but not too bad. I tend to overheat so not had the same problem as you. Thin layers may help you stay a little warmer? Hope the cold doesn’t put you off👍🏻

Don't think about it, just do it.

You don't need all those layers as you warm up pretty quickly once you start moving. Just do a longer warm up and lots of moves to get your body ready for running. You'll NEVER regret going for a run whereas you're already beating yourself up because you wimped out. It's your choice, your body, your life, your motivation. Nobody else owns it.

Just think you're a warrior queen and get out there. Repeat after me, "I'm a warrior. I'm a warrior".........grrrrrrrrrrr 💪💪💪

Ever wanted to have an Adventure?

Running in the cold will be one for you :)

Life is short - but it's a gift basket waiting to be filled with new experiences, sensations, achievements and the pain of not changing things shouldn't take up too much space in it.

Next time - plunge in and be like Nansen who no doubt wondered at SOME point why in hell he ever thought trekking to the Pole was a fun thing to do (but he did it ☺)

Wishing you many happy miles in your future ☺

Dont beat yourself up, you can always start tomorrow.

I like the early morning; got my leggings, top & jacket from decathlon (they have a beginner runner section!) which I found affordable. They specify on label which temperatures they are for. Good luck.

I found that if I wear some gloves to start with I can cope with the cold until I warm up. I've got some cheap running gloves from sports direct so they scrunch up small if I warm up. I also put a summer running vest on under my long sleeve just to keep me a bit warmer. It's really lovely running at the moment. Lovely crisp autumn weather, leaves crunching.... Good luck for your next run.

Hmmm....I recognise this problem, I popped on a vest this morning, usual leggings as well...my hubby goes 'it's 7 degrees out there woman, you're never going out in a vest!' He's under the duvet at this point..."Yep, soon be too hot" I said...And sure enough, I was sweating buckets about 5 mins in...passed a couple of runners in sweatshirts, one said morning as she went by, and I was thinking crickey she must be boiling, probably at the same time time as she was thinking I was bonkers running in a vest!!🤣🤣

My advice, warm up plenty in the house, then power through the first few minutes, you'll soon be warm enough 😄

All that said, don't feel bad, I'm sure we've all been there....😊

Thanks all. I hate the cold and constantly feel it at home so it’s a real mental battle for me. It’s almost like a phobia which I know sounds stupid but I just try to avoid being cold at all times. (I work from home most of the time and wear many layers and wrap up with blankets.) So I’m going to have to get over this - and I do know it’s only for the first part of a run :/

A hat and gloves really help. 😊

Perhaps start with some jumping jacks to get the blood flowing before the coldest part - the warm up walk? It’s only 5 minutes and then you start to get much warmer!
