What is Your Week? October...Week 1.

Good morning everyone...

Yes, here I am again...bright eyed and bushy tailed...all set up. to bring us all together, in the What is Your Week chat.

The weather is definitely changing... the seasons moving on, wonderfully, and a nip in the air. The photo, taken by my lovely son in law...Traswcoed woods in Autumn :)

This is is my favourite time of the year for running... cool, crisp and colourful! Later this week. temperatures are set to rise again...but, as ever, we are able, hopefully, to still find the time and the opportunity to complete our runs.

With numbers increasing, it is great, to have a little fun post ,so we can see who is on which week, of the programme, and hopefully it will help everyone to feel more included on the forum.

We can support, encourage and generally help each other, in a positive and friendly way, with no thought of comparison.

Please remember it doesn't matter if you stay on the same week for a while, that is fine; it is a journey and it really doesn't matter how long it takes, it will be so worth it when you get to the final run.

If you have just graduated, also, this will be a great place to keep you motivated, and there is always the Quest on the Bridge to 10k forum as well for graduates.

So, come and join the fun.... Let us know how it is going :)

I have just about completed all my REruns of C25K due to the slight injury on my right hip which occurred 3 weeks after I graduated, I was about to run a full 5k but just before that, my hip got sore, not sure if the running caused that but it did stop me from running for about 6 weeks, so hopefully sometime this week I will repeat week 9 and not long after that go for the full 5k distance. I hope you are keeping well Floss, have a good day.

Sounds like a great plan.. and workable:) Slow and steady , as ever.

I am good, thank you.. getting back on form :)

Well I am now on week 6 and completed run 2 this morning... all long runs from now on. I cannot believe how far I’ve come from week 1 this program is fab.

Oldfloss profile image

Very well done.... you are doing wonderfully. Relax into the longer runs.. they are perfect for these new running legs to try out their skills:)

I’m on W6 and this time around have kept to schedule. I will be out running on the dewy fields with Molly this morning 👍🐾🏃‍♀️😊

I’ve just finished week 1, but it was a struggle. I think that perhaps I should repeat it, until I can do it properly.

If you completed..move on. But take it really slowly. Try to just relax and move lightly...you can do it😊

Week 7 - did my first run on Saturday. Planning to do run 2 tomorrow. I love that bit at the end when she says push yourself for the last 60 seconds. Incredible what extra energy you can find when you think you're already running on empty, and it makes the achievement seem even greater when you get to the end.

Such a lovely picture and a lovely, encouraging post too!! Thank you Oldfloss for your very motivating words - I’m definitely having a whole mix of feelings facing this challenge! My last run at the weekend was W4R3 and I had been dreading it as W4R2 was sooo hard, but then I surprised myself and completed it without as much struggle as before, I definite found that SLOWING DOWN worked for me, and I kept thinking “baby steps, just take baby steps for now”, and it worked! All set for W5R1 tomorrow 😉👍🏻😉👍🏻

My son in law takes some lovely photographs..You are doing really well..I think once we realise that it is just fine to move slowly..we relax into the runs more. My mantra of slow and steady works for me.. not just in running!

Well done you 😊

Week 9! Well we have done most of that too... run 27 2/10/2018

Strangely nervous... I know my daughter and I can both do it, we’ve done it twice already... so I’m not sure what it is, it’s just another run.

Hi , I feel the same way, it’s a mixture of nerves and sadness it’s the end of that journey, you’ve proved you can run 30 mins slow it down if you need to! I’ll be thinking of you and your daughter tomorrow when I do mine, lots of love and luck

UnfitNoMore profile image

Best of luck with yours too. I think the nerves will go as I lace up! Daughter is ready for cake she’s not had any for 12 weeks now 😂

Walshy3 profile image

What 🙀no cake 🍰 for 12 weeks!! How can that be!! I’ll pass a McDonald’s on the way home tomorrow, I may just pop in and have a celebratory chocolate donut in honour of you both... and myself of course, let me know how you go!!!!!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Walshy3

She’s been on a health kick... I haven’t eaten cake in a long long time, I don’t have a sweet tooth.

I was 40 before I set foot in a McDonald’s... but that’s not too unusual for a vegetarian I guess. Had a “tea” and next time I had a coffee, that was passable!

Walshy3 profile image
Walshy3 in reply to UnfitNoMore

I live for the cappuccino, it gives me a boost in the morning, I’ll use it as turbo fuel to get round my run☕️☕️

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreGraduate in reply to Walshy3

I’m a tea drinker, but the growth of coffee means now I get to pay a lot more for an incredibly bad cup of tea than I used to pay for a decent one! So I drink cappuccino occasionally and espresso maybe too much when I’m out and about.

I am on W7. R1 didn't go well yesterday I had to stop after 20 minutes..I expected it to be a harder run as I switched from the treadmill to outside but gutted I didn't complete the 25 minutes

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to GlassA

The outdoor runs are so different... much less control over everything. Head out again after your rest up.. relax and let the legs begin to find their happy pace:)

GlassA profile image
GlassAGraduate in reply to Oldfloss

Thanks I will. I have a flatter route to try tomorrow....fingers crossed

I did W1-R1 this morning, trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey as I was expecting it to be quite chilly. After only the five minute warm up I was starting to get hot.

Managed to get to the 7th interval all right but then I started flagging. It feels like I'm going to have two blisters on my feet, it's an unusual sensation on the pads near my big toes.

emily-m profile image
emily-mGraduate in reply to

It's Hobson's choice at the minute: chilly warm-up or overheated run! Obviously the former is better than the latter, but I'm a warm weather type so it for me takes a bit more conscious motivation!

Started W1D1 this morning as a total beginner. Completed c25k a few years ago then never ran again since then (!) I have since put on weight and now find myself back to square one fitness-wise... Found it harder than I expected to be honest but you have to start somewhere I suppose!

Started last week and have just repeated W1D1 for the 4th time. Today I managed 6 out of the 8 runs which is an improvement on the barely 3 30 second runs I did first time. I want to do all 8 runs before I move on Day 2.

I’ve lost 5 stones in the last year and incredibly unfit. I’m overthinking it and so scared that I’m going to fall and I’m useless at setting my pace!

I’ll get there I’m sure!

Hi Lostrunner! congrats on the epic weight loss. You've already made such progress. I couldn't do the first run either in fact I was violently ill after despite walking for half of it the first time. I repeated the week until it felt...well not comfortable but certainly complete. You will get there definitely! I've just completed week 3. maybe try the running 'motion' but at a walking pace at first? keep us posted :) you'll find lots of support here. :)

Good morning (or afternoon I should say for most of you on the other side of the pond) Oldfloss and everyone reading! I'm on week 4, did R1 this morning. Was hoping to have it done yesterday, but with the first few snowflakes in the air, a husband who had to work and two kids who wanted extra cuddles... it got put off until this morning. It wasn't easy, but I kept it slow and kept myself moving. Got significantly more steps than last week according to my fitbit, so that's nice as I'm hoping to do better than usual on this week's fitbit challenge with friends. I am wholly unimpressed that it snowed before it was October... but the cool weather is bringing the colours out on the trees.

For the first time I had a weird ache/pull/cramp type sensation in my backside while running... I have a feeling this is the dreaded piriformis I've read about on here. I slowed down (even more) and it subsided, but definitely want to keep that in check. So I'll do some additional strengthening exercises and spend some extra time on the foam roller.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to Amandana

Hey you... brrrr... sounds a tad chilly! I bet the trees are fabulous!!!

Slow and steady always pays off.. as long as you are warm:)

Make sure you are warming up well and try these for that tight achy pull...I used than after I had the trapped sciatic nerve...they did help... :)

nhs.uk/Video/Pages/sciatica...

A good roll helps too :) Well done you! Stay warm and get some extra cuddles in yourself :)

Thanks Oldfloss! I haven't been doing any stretches that require lying down, but now that my stretch will be moved indoors these will be easier to include!

Also..if you have a Newel post on the stairs...hold around it and squat.. it really relieves the strain... I can send you a link for this in a PM if you like... ?

Still on week 8. Had a bit of a thigh niggle last week (from dance class, rather than running, I think) so resigned myself to the injury couch.

Got back out there yesterday for W8R1. Felt a bit apprehensive, but actually it turned out to be a nice relaxed Sunday morning type run and I really enjoyed it. The first km or so, lots of things went wrong. I accidentally took myself down some steps, then I couldn't get across the road, then at the end of one of the cow fields the gate was stuck shut and for a moment I thought I would have to climb over the fence! But I think being slowed down was probably good, and I finished the 28 minutes feeling I could probably have carried on for a while. Now a great advocate for the virtues of rest and looking forward to runs 2 and 3!

Oldfloss profile image

Very well done you... listening to your body.. always a plan :) I have trouble with big heavy gates... and invariably have a climbing section :)

Week 9 here, run 2 tomorrow. Feeling a mixture of emotions, chuffed that I have come so far and a bit bemused as to what's next after a few consolidation runs. Planning a park run in a few weeks and have My barcode all ready to go!

I just completed Week 3 run 2. Almost didn't go out because it had been raining all day and I run on grass in my local park (how do people run on concrete?! It wrecks every joint and muscle in my body!). I told myself to get a grip and get out there and I'm so glad I did! Strangely though I found the last 3 minute jog harder than the same jog on week 3 day 1. Though I did spend 5 hours on a train today so maybe my legs muscles just weren't as loose or something?

Well done you..keep it slow and steady 😉

I’ve completed my very first c25k run this morn! I’m a reluctant runner and normally I hate it but I’m hoping the app will ease me into running & by the end I’ll be able to go for a run with my husband without wanting to a) kill him and b) die! (I turn 40 next yr so that’s also my motivation)

Really hope I stick with it; think I just need to find my pace and style. I’m in the middle of being treated for plantar fasciitis so will see how my foot feels tomorrow. The only thing bugging me now is my hips. Is that normal???!

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministratorGraduate in reply to

Hi there..lots of normal aches and pains are to be expected... check out the stretching exercises in the FAQ post for Newbies:)

Take it really slow and steady and keep posting your runs on the site too:)

Today I have started week 4. I am unfortunately confined to Treadmill running as my Physio told me running outside will not do my joints much good after my break. So watching Bones (oh the irony) as I run as I find the suspense of the story helps take my mind off the running.

I'm so glad that I have made it this far and the weeks are going quickly but I can feel a difference in my fitness already, as I can walk up the stairs at work without puffing and panting. I just hope it starts to do the same to my waistline too!!

80 days until I go skiing and I need to be fitter to be able to do that :D

Have a good week everyone!!

Did Wk5 R1 yesterday - I did this last week but then took a week off due to dodgy knees so thought it best to start Wk5 again. Was wondering whether I'd be able to do the 3 x 5 min runs again after having a break but was surprised to find that it was pretty easy! Having had the break, my knees were feeling much better but after yesterday's run my left knee was twinging a bit again, so looks like it's not going to be something that rest will cure. I have looked for somewhere to get a gait analysis done but can't find any shops near me (South West UK) that do it, anyone know of anywhere? Otherwise, feeling good - was really looking forward to getting back to the running, I missed it! I also found that whilst NOT running my old bad food habits came back with a vengeance, lots of snacking etc. When I'm running, I seem to want to eat more healthily, which is a good outcome! Looking forward to R2 tomorrow, feel confident about the 8 min runs, but feel a bit apprehensive about 20 mins on Sunday, I must admit! I did read somewhere on here though that actually, longer runs with no walking are easier, and I can see how that would be - over the past couple of weeks doing the slightly longer runs, I have felt that the walks are a bit of a nuisance because I get out of my running rhythm and when I start again I feel all stiff and awkward for 30 seconds or so, I'm nervous but excited about doing 20 mins, we shall see!!

limberlou profile image

Well I’m back, working my way up through C25k, and just completed Wk4run2 ( again). Feeling so good with it all I’m tempted to skip run 3 and go to week5. Am I being silly? Do I risk it? It’s not much different to today’s run ..... Old Floss.. sensible advice please?

Really enjoying the autumn running too. Also my fav time of the year for running and everything really.

Well.. when I worked my through C25K again.after a spell on the IC... I did right up to the end of Week 5, before moving on picking and choosing... I think getting to that stage is helpful to make sure muscles are all good to go:)

I had got to week 8 but I’ve kinda gone backwards as my asthma kicked in a bit with the weather change, plus life got in the way!

On a positive note though I’m still getting in 20 minute runs despite these obstacles and that’s something I would never have achieved before starting C25K and I have every intention of completing it albeit slower than originally intended! 💪🏻🏃🏻‍♀️
