Today I ran 6k for the first time, and I really felt I could have continued on. I know it wasn’t speedy (47.54) but I was chuffed as anything. I also got a 5k PB of 39.27. πŸ˜€

I didn’t have time to post this morning, and I thought I’d have forgotten about it by now - but not a chance, it’s been on my mind all day. My husband glazes over! πŸ˜…

So Parkrun Saturday. Yesss. My foot feels fine and the week off did it good.

So newbies/doubters - I am 54, 5’3, have a naturally short stride, disliked running more than words can say back in June, and now I’m thinking of nothing else! You too can feel like this if you persevere. It’s the best programme and this is the best forum.

Bit of an Oscar acceptance speech ... sorry! I just HAD to share!

Go smash those runs! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Well done to you cheekychipmunks, you will still be buzzing at the startline on Saturday morning, hi Jay66UK, not heard from you for a few weeks, I hope you are keeping well.

Oh I can’t wait AlMorr! I’ve learned to keep parkrun times separate to my regular route and not be disappointed when my time is slower due to start line congestion and the monster hill. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Thanks Jelon, I took it easy last time out, but thought I’d increase the distance this time and it paid off. πŸ˜€

Fabulous hun, believe me your speedy you’re a good 10 mins faster than me I truly embrace my inner snail. X

Aww thanks Pigginanna! I’m trying to leave my snail for dust, but he’s sticking with me! πŸŒπŸ˜…

Well done. You sound rather speedy to me. I’m of similar age and height. Agree that this is a fab programme. My husband is now following it. He used to run lots - has a few half marathons under his belt but then developed a serious foot problem and has been unable to run for a few years. He had surgery for club feet nearly 60 years ago and thought it was probably connected. He then got some special orthotics and some new running shoes and is using the programme to get used to running with the orthotics. So far so good - we are cautiously optimistic!

Thanks newrunner! Hope your husband gets on well. Hopefully his prior running experience will help.

My husband is a fit rower. He’s also a naturally good runner and there’s no way he’ll ever run with me - I’d be left standing! I’m happy trotting around at my snail pace. πŸ˜€

Wow well done on the 6k and PB on the 5k!!!

It’s nice to hear how much you have grown to love running-there really is something about the programme and this forum that give you the running bug!

Have fun on Saturday!

Thanks Marcia. πŸ˜€ It’s lovely finding joy in something I used to despise, and it’s all down to C25K and you guys on here. ❀️

Thanks embobs! I do ooze enthusiasm, sometimes a bit too much I think! But it’s genuine and I love to pass it on. I want others to know how fabulous running can be. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ˜€

Congrats!

So... are you going to travel the length and breadth of Britain to 'collect' Parkruns or keep to your local?

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate in reply to Katnap

Haha, I love the idea of β€˜parkrun tourism’, in fact we have friends who do just that! But I think I’ll be staying local ...... for now! πŸ˜€πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Katnap profile image
KatnapGraduate in reply to cheekychipmunks

My local is pretty flat so some other Parkruns seem a bit daunting. Especially from w3r3 (completed this morning).

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate in reply to Katnap

We have 3 parkruns close to us. All have hills, in fact one is 2.5k up, 2.5k down! The one I do is on the side of a hill, so barely any really flat bits, and one hill in particular is pretty tough (for me!).

You’ll love it, the atmosphere is fabulous! Good luck with the rest of the programme! πŸ˜€

Amazing, thanks for sharing cheekychipmunks!! 5k under 40mins is amazing! I'm also on the shorter side (5'4") and it's super important to note that height and pace are necessarily related!

Oh, cheeky... You've done brilliant. It's a PB! Even if it's by a second, you're improving! I'm proud of you chick and you should be too! You'll keep smashing the parkruns, keep getting better, but you know what? If you don't end up making Usain Bolt worry about his medals, I don't think we'll complain. You're running, you've got this, and you're one of the nicest friends I've made on here. Keep running, keep moving and enjoy the benefits. If you're up my way for a parkrun, hit me up. We'll meet at the finish line.

I have coffee with two sugars and a good splash of milk. I just hope I'm not so far behind that it's cold when I get there.

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksGraduate in reply to Jundal

Awww thanks for the kind words Jundal! πŸ˜€ I swear this forum alone goes a long way towards our running success. I’ve made the nicest VRB’s and of course you’re one of them!

I’m not sure about yours being the cold coffee on the finish line at parkrun! I think it would be mine - if you could see the β€˜speed’ I run up our parkrun hill, you’d understand! People literally walk past me faster! 🀣 But hey, they’re walking, I’m running! πŸ‘πŸ‘
