Graduation Run Aborted at 17min due to F******** asthma

So annoyed. It’s been getting worse as the weather has changed. And totally scuppered the run. Took ventolin four times before running and still was wheezing. No park run until I have a good last 30min. Body willing but lungs failing. Gutted.

Bad timing for it to bite you... 26 runs without it stopping you though, that’s pretty good. Would a buff help?

That's a real bummer . Sorry it stopped you as you have done so well ...

Alas I have no knowledge of running with Asthma. I know there are some here who do so hopefully they can give you some tips and solid advise..

Have heard about wearing a buff before on here helping though.

Hopefully you will be back on track soon good luck 😀

Oh no poor you bet you’re cross as a cross thing - hopefully lots of tips - mines noticeably bad this last 2 weeks can only manage v short runs!

Also asthmatic here, but only real advice I could offer is to get your medication reviewed, particularly if as you say it is getting worse as the weather changes. Breathing through your nose, or a buff/scarf etc helps, as cold air can trigger asthma and that warms the air slightly. I also cannot follow the general breathing advice for running - I have to concentrate on breathing in twice through my nose, and out quite forcefully three times through my mouth (I tend to hold my breath when my lungs get tight). I time my steps to my breathing, not the other way round, to keep both my pace and my breathing slow and regular.

Thanks all. I ended up with a very prolonged asthma attack and coughing fit, about eight puffs on the inhaler and felt very spaced out. Left work early as I was so tired and my throat and chest are sore. Had similar but less severe reaction after the last run. I actually ran 30 mins on my last week eight run so this should’ve been easily doable. I ran under 6min per km for 2km so my muscles are showing improvement, but my lungs suddenly can’t cope. I’m wondering if I have a cold coming. My asthma is worse this week but it was a warmer day than run 1 & 2.

This is the only time I’ve stopped, felt like stopping many times but always pushed through. I’ll rest up and see how I manage a short run in a few days. I’ve booked a GP appointment and will ask if there’s a specialist I can see. Also seeing a Physio for advice on technique.
