Tips for Holiday Running?

I have just completed Week 1, and am really enjoying it - I can feel a difference already! I have a track record of going through fitness fads that never last very long, so I am keen to make myself running obsessed so that I don't fall back into bad, sedentary habits. I am going to Spain for a week on Saturday, and am wondering if anyone has any tips for keeping it up while I'm there? I think I'm going to try and run first thing before it gets too warm, and I have told the family I'm running while we're there (hoping for a bit of peer pressure). I will do W2 R1 on Saturday before we go to the airport, and then hope to at least finish week 2 while we're there.

Any advice from people who have gone on holiday during C25K will be very welcome!

It’s fun running on hols! You’ll enjoy the different scenery, and if you go first thing you’ll feel righteous for the rest of the day! 😇

I did W7 and most of W8 while I was in Bavaria last month and loved every run. It was baking hot there, so I went out by 6.30am each time. I found a circular route so I didn’t get lost.

You’ll be fine! Remember bug spray perhaps? I was eaten alive while I was sweaty and cooling down, other than that it was fabulous fun! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️☀️☀️

Enjoy yourself. 😀

My only advice is don’t underestimate how much space your running gear (trainers in particular) takes up in your case. If they are trainers you would otherwise wear on holiday then, great, but if not then you might just want to make sure they fit in with all your other things. I recently went on a trip to London and my running gear included running trainers, sports bra, 2 pairs of leggings, 2 pairs of socks and 2 vests and I was really surprised at how much room they all took up!

Hi GG,

I went on holiday to France at the beginning of week 6. I got up early and did my runs before anyone else got up ! In fact I used to pop in to the baker's on the way back and pick up croissants up for breakfast. It was nice because it was out of the way and I didn't feel so bad about drinking and eating so much 🤣

One thing to take into account...I live in Essex where is is very flat and easy to run...France was not the roads were hilly...it was a shock I can tell you 😉

Hi, try to think about taking clothes that you could use for both casual or running wear if you’ve got washing facilities, that’ll reduce the space. 👕👚If you have running shoes, make sure you take them as well as other shoes.👟

I managed to take all my running gear and other clothes on the back of a motorbike 🏍 last week, but having said that I expect ladies might need more space than I do 😊

Running on hols is good - different views and if at the seaside it is nice and flat!!! Caution running off a skinful is not nice and is a reminder that I’m not as young as I used to be!!!!

Going on holiday gives you an excuse to give you new places to run.

You're right, I suggest running first thing in the morning. One consequence of this is that you'll not drink too much alcohol the previous evening, and may even have a lighter dinner if you know that you'll be running in a few hours.

As always for a morning run, lay out all your gear, clobber and gadgets the previous evening. Get up, have a half glass of water, then get dressed/ready and go.

Wake everyone up when you get back and then feel smug all day ;-)

What he said.

I wore my trainers for travelling cos they were quite bulky. Also, I ran at 6:30 ish before it got hot. Happy holiday running!

Guys, thanks so much for all your advice and encouragement! Just got back from W2R2 on second get-up of holiday. Feeling very virtuous, and the others are still in bed! I saw 4 wild rabbits, tons of dogs, and the beautiful light of a misty sky just as the sun is rising! 😍
