Running on Holiday (And at Festivals!)

I had all sorts of plans for our holiday to Wales, brought a set of running clothes, even bought some more socks. When it came down to it, I just did the one - during the North Wales/Snowdonia leg. However, we don’t really do beach holidays (just as well as it only averaged 17 degrees and rained lots) so we did plenty of walking and hiking (what is the difference?). I averaged about 18k steps each day, walked up and down the steepest road in the UK (Fford Pen Llech in Harlech - 40% gradient 😱) and two 8 mile hikes including one around spectacular waterfalls in Ffestiniog.

The second leg of our holiday was to the Green Man Festival in the Brecon Beacons. We try to go every year as it’s brilliantly family friendly and has something for us all. At the end of the weekend they burn the Green Man (see picture) and there is a spectacular firework display. I am getting to be a keen runner but I’m afraid there was no way I was running here - we stayed up very late and laid in to make up for it and it’s my one chance of the year to be even slightly hedonistic (although it does involve lots of walking about and bouncing up and down (aka dancing) to the music so there’s a bit of athleticism...). I was amazed to see runners there - my husband spotted at least 4. I wondered if any of you out there have ever carried on your running routine at a festival?

So it’s back to reality now. We’ve been back since Monday afternoon. My son and I did a short run to get back into it on Tuesday and I did my first 30 minuter tonight. The Tuesday run was tough but tonight wasn’t bad - I was up against a headwind during the downhills which was annoying but my pace is still improving. All the music I have listened to must have improved my rhythm. 3 miles completed and feeling good for it too.

Back to Parkrun on Saturday, lets see how close I’m getting to my 🦆🦆🦆 tattoo 😊😊😊

Hope you like the photos Eiralas 😊

Welcome home. Sounds like my kind of holiday. A week or two off can boost you and as you’re straight back on it, it looks like it has. Good post.

I took my running gear to both WOMAD and Purbeck Valley Folk festival this year, as always.

Ah! Photos! Mountains! Thank you, thank, you, thank you! ❤️

Sounds like a fantastic holiday with all that walking and hiking (and mountains!), and well done for tackling the steepest road! All rounded off with the festival 🙂 One run on holiday is still good going, and I'm sure the extra socks will come in useful.

Well done on getting back into the regular running now you are back - enjoy parkrun 🙂

Now 'scuse me while I just absorb those mountains again...

It’s a pleasure 😁 I love those mountains too. Back in the winter to see them snow capped I hope.
