Thanks to every1 who has supported me. Just completed my first run on Aberrfraw (spelt right?) beach. Don't feel too bad tbh. Stumbling back now. Come on Saturday for R2.

Oh that looks nice! Run 1 was the worst for me, possibly because it was the first time I had run anywhere for about 35 years. So you've done the 2 hardest things in the programme: 1) getting your trainers on and leaving the house, and 2) run 1. Well done!

Thanks Mike... I ran barefoot. Felt great. Thighs feel stiff now.

Well done. A great start. 👍😁

Are you thinking of doing the whole programme barefoot? I used to spend most of my time barefoot in my youth. I do miss it.

Do read the faqs, some very useful info here healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Maybe. Good idea. But today is my last beach day so probably hills next. I live in the Peak District. Not very flat.

But beautiful!! Hills are good for making you a strong runner. Just slow down and keep your steps small on uphill and downhill. But have fun too! 👍😉

Thanks for posting the tips.. Completely new to any form of cardio and having just staggered in from 2nd session (I wouldn't dare yet call it a run as have yet to manage even a vague jog for more than 15 continuous paces max. Mostly it's about five paces!) am absolutely horrified at how unfit I am! Wondering now if I should start week one again and substitute the running sections for brisk walking. To be honest I'm unable to hold a straight conversation without getting breathless even at a normal walking pace. Thoughts?

New to me Painter... stick with the forum... I have been here 48 hours and the support is incredible.

Slow down. Trust me, you can run slower. Running doesn't mean fast. The key is to run but keep it slow enough to cope. You can do it. You really can 👍😁

I'll persevere... weird thing is, I can run on the spot but moving forward at the same time is a whole other kettle of fish! :-)

Very welcome. The peak District will great for running. Nice views.

You'll be stuff for a while. Im working my way up to 10 k and I'm on 8.5 k at the moment and I climb in bed thinking why I am doing this to myself then 48 hours later I do it again. 😂😂

Just so you know, you can edit typos by clicking ‘more’ under your post then choosing ‘edit’. Took me ages to discover that (and I make a LOT of typos!)

Thank you. I make loads 😂. .

Ha! But now you know how to hide them! Typing’s like running, it doesn’t help to start off too fast. For running I’ve mostly learned that now. Typing on the other hand .... 😃

Thanks

Firstly, welcome to the big family of runners. We tend to be a friendly and supportive lot, and don't worry about asking questions - we have all been there!

Can I say that it looks a stunning backdrop for a first run? Rather dramatic and with the sea for company. Also, can I add a note of caution? Sand looks great to run on, but it can be surprisingly hard on the heels... be careful and take care of the old back paws. I bruised mine several millennia ago (when I was a wee lad) and it took forever to stop hurting; I even had to have special heel cushion thingies to protect them during my athletics training. Prevention is better than cure.

On a cheerier note, keep going, don't rush and enjoy every minute of being outside in all weathers. Run naked - not literally - but with no tech except a watch and enjoy the natural world around you change from day to day, and season to season.

Keep going, keep us informed and congratulations on becoming a runner.

Thanks for the advice Sally. I am back to real life today so no more sand for a while. More parks and hills. Feel good after R1 but a little stiff. Hoping to be feeling less stiff tomoz for W1R2. Tony.
