Help, bunion alert!

Hi Everyone, I am back running again after falling by the wayside and listening to my excuses. I've finally rid my self of the negative thoughts and feeling really positive except that I'm getting trouble with bunion pain and don't want to have to stop running now! I am taking it slow and resting in between, but I wondered if any of you had experienced bunions and had any advice for me?

Never had one, but found a link on Runner’s world that may help.

I take a daily Omega 3 fish oil capsule a day and a glucosamine Chond wotsit. I eat lots of oily fish as well I buy wider toe box shoes when I can find them 🙄.

If I forget the above capsules the pain in my big toe area reminds me to take it 😬

So far so good, and had it for years. Running hasn’t made it any worse

i’m no doc though 🙂

Thanks, thats really encouraging. I eat oily fish, but don't take any supplements, so I will

look into that as well as my shoes :)

My wife runs regularly. And is also afflicted with a bunion. It doesn't cause her any particular pain or aggravation but shoes can be a bit tricky.

When she saw her GP last she was told that surgery was an option, but she'd be off her feet from 3-4 weeks post Op and probably not able to run for 3-4 months.

So any Op is looking unlikely for the time being....

I will def look at my shoe situation, but it sounds as though as long as take care it shouldn't affect me too much, which is just what I hoped to hear, thanks :)

I have bunions, but fortunately they don't trouble me much. I have to be careful with my shoes though and make sure to choose ones with a wide toe box, which can be quite limiting but they are out there. Something I have noticed is that it depends where the hard plastic that holds the laces is stuck/sewn on, as sometimes this creases right over my bunion and means that that particular shoe doesn't fit me. Shoes with a knitted top are great - I'm currently in Hoka One Ones and Speedgoats, but previously I had Brooks Adrenaline wide fitting. I've had New Balance wide fit as well. Hope you find something that works for you!

Shoes are on my list to get. I'm in Nike structure zoom at the moment and they don't seem too bad as they are wide, but I'm ready for new ones. I re did the laces last night and started the lacing higher up to avoid pressure on the lower foot. It feels a bit odd though! Thanks for the advice x
