Completed W8R3 and have severe heel pain!

I managed to complete Week 8 this morning, but half way through my run started to get heel pain in my left foot. I have been hobbling around ever since and hoping that I haven’t got Plantar Fascilitis!. 😔😔😔I’ve done some research and ordered some NHS approved insoles and some support socks and plan to rest up over the weekend. I’m hoping that I don’t have to delay my graduation week. 🏃🏽‍♀️🍀🏃🏽‍♀️🍀🏃🏽‍♀️🍀

It might be, be careful.....when I did the programme I kept getting to about week 8 and got the pain in my heel, a sharp bruisey stabbing pain....it was plantar fasciitis which occurs from overuse, I gave myself a break and then ran twice a week, that suited me. I carried on running twice a week and haven’t look back since, three times a week high impact was too much, I’ve since gone on to run 3 half marathons, so don’t be too hard on yourself, and do plenty of calf stretches......

Hope my experience is of some help, take care

Mx 🤗

Thank so much Madge50! 😘....your response is so helpful. I would be happy with 2 runs a week and other low impact exercise in between. The fact that you have gone on to run half marathons is a huge inspiration and gives me hope. I will let you know how I get on with the products I’ve purchased, as you may find them useful too. X 🤗

Oh I got really cross with myself, kept thinking I should be able to do it, I’d rest an extra couple of days and try again, and the bruisey feeling would start. It was such a relief when I ‘allowed’ myself to do two runs, we’re all different, the plan is just a guide....make it work for you, you’ll get there.

I will take your advice and see how it goes. I had a similar pain in my right foot when I started the programme but thankfully it has now gone. Fingers crossed this will subside soon. Thanks once again for your feedback, it’s really helpful. 😘👍🤗

It’s also helpful to get hold of a nice tennis ball and after your run put your foot on it and roll the instep area over to ball - use as much weight as is comfortable - to give the plantar area a good massage. 😊

I used a mini rolling pin too......under my foot rolling it backwards and forwards , heel to toe....👍😄

Thank you again Madge50. I have frozen a water bottle overnight and will roll this under my foot this morning. 🤗😘

You are doing great. Have a rest and then you’ll be able to graduate really soon. Good luck 😁

What a shame Vix, but I’m sure if you manage it carefully, have extra rest and forget about any sort of speed for a while, you’ll be able to graduate soon. Join the 🐌🐌🐌 club with me. I’m so slow, my feet don’t dare start to hurt! 😅😅

I would follow the advice from Madge50

Carrying on regardless is not a good idea with p f and it certainly sounds like that.

This is a useful guide to common running injuries, including p f. runnersworld.com/health-inj...

Take care.

Thank you IannodaTruffe!

I have read the information you’ve provided, it is really helpful. I have woken this morning in less pain, but I am going to do the recommended exercises and will roll a frozen water bottle under my foot to help with the pain. I will follow all the advice given to me as I really don’t want to cease running altogether.

Thank you so much for your advice and support. 🤗😀

Make sure you take the time to heal properly. I had an injury and kept trying to force myself to get back out there which meant that it took two weeks to heal instead of one. Just don’t put too much pressure on yourself

Thank you Mashedpotato! I know it’s so tempting to carry on but it could cause more damage and result in a much longer period on the injury coach. I will take your advice and rest up until I’m no longer experiencing any pain. 🤗😘

Thank you Fabulous450!

I love the thought of running always being here, as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my journey so far and would so upset if I can’t continue. I will definitely rest up, be positive and see how it goes.

Enjoy your trip in Croatia! 🇭🇷 🇭🇷🇭🇷
