Toast and mashed banana.

So, today was my first run since I've been back from my holiday where I'd been running in the heat. I decided to have a little snack before I went as before I'd been running first thing and not having anything but water. I had half a slice of toast with mashed banana 40 minutes before I went. Week 5 run 2. My 5 minute warm up was up hill as I'd decided to go a different route so I didn't get bored. Then my first 8 minute run! I found it really tough and couldn't believe it when she said I'd done 4 minutes. I was running along a very uneven pavement (if you could call it that) on a slight gradient beside a very busy A road - a bit different from what I'd been doing last week. I cut off at that point down in to park land quite pleased when I had to stop and open a five bar gate. It was at that point everything changed. I got in to a rhythm and although it was harder I am now thinking how great I feel to have stuck with it and got it under my belt. The toast and mashed banana? I think I'll try it an hour before my run next time. What does everyone else eat before their run? I am also going to change my route. I'll keep to the parkland where I can look at nature rather than cars and arctic lorries.

Roll on Monday!

They are both good run fuels... think toast is better an hour or two before, banana any time from then to about when you ate it.

I like chocolate milk before a run as it’s the only time I get the chocolate taste on a regular week. Four weeks a year I get to actually eat the stuff... I do like those weeks 😂😂

Great idea. Without doubt fuelling properly before a run will help with performance, I just never think to do it! Your post has spurred me on to have something beforehand and Banana on toast works for me 😋

I'll be interested to read what others have before a run.

Yes, running in countryside is much more preferable to being next to vehicles, if there's the choice, and much better for your lungs!

I definitely think the snack helped me. After my runs without eating before I felt very tired for the rest of the day. Yesterday, no problem! If I'm pushed for time I might even try UnfitNoMore's tip and eat just the banana 😋

Mmmm sounds lovely. If I run in the morning I eat nothing before my run. For afternoon runs I have a thin slice of crusty bread cut in half, with a little cheese on one half and a little jam on the other. Anyhow, we’ll done and keep going!

I don't tend to eat in the morning as I go within 20mins of waking. After a run I'll have porridge with banana.

If I go in the day I eat about 2 hours before a run. I'm not to good with the stuff that I eat but I am getting better.

I've started taking fruit and nuts along with other not so good food. 😕

I run early morning but don’t have time to eat before so I go out on a mug of tea, sometimes 2 at the weekend. Never have any problems with not eating before a run (24k this morning). I did take a few dried apricots this morning as an experiment and put electrolytes in my water though!

Sounds tasty but can’t run with food on board. Usually if I’m out early a cup of black tea, or just water. Then eat when I get home. However for the park run this morning, I had a cup of black tea, and for energy .... some plain chocolate 😍😅! Actually a small piece of chocolate before most runs, if I’m honest....it is sugar free, but not this morning, it was with sugar, figured I would need it to do a Parkrun. Any excuse to have chocolate really, but it served its purpose, kept me going!!

To be serious though, i do keep really well hydrated, even on rest days.

Enjoy your running, and have fun with it too 🌻
