...Thanks to the wind and rain! I’ve been nursing my bruised ribs after a tumble off my bike so this was only my second run in 12 days. The first was too hot (even at 6am), i was sore and it ended up being a frustratingly short one. Today i woke up late - too late, i thought, for a run given the recent temperatures, but after seeing the horizontal rain through the window and feeling the blissful cool breeze, i togged up, necked some paracetamol and set off.
I was running naked (without music because i haven’t found my headphones after putting them in a ‘safe place’ on return from holiday) which initially i found hard - i hate hearing my heavy breathing! I did notice that i was less concerned about time and pace though. I just set my phone to tell me distance, which i could just about hear from the depths of my pocket.
This is turning into a ramble - what i wanted to share was my conclusions after this mornings run, which turned out to be the longest and 2nd fastest ever despite my concerns about fitness and pain:-
Firstly, if you’re on the IC try not to fret. If i can get back in the saddle anyone can.
Secondly, the hot weather is gruelling. I know now that i prefer more wintery weather so i’m not going to beat myself up for under-achieving in the heat.
Lastly, my best runs seem to be when i stop obsessing about time, pace, and goals.
I don’t know if that helps anyone, but, it has made me more relaxed about the whole process!
