Week 5 nailed

I have just done W5R3. I have never at any time in my adult life run for 20 minutes. I set off thinking I might manage 10 minutes then walk a couple then run again, but when the lovely Laura said I'd done 10 mins I thought 'this is OK, I'll do another 5'. Then I just kept going. I wasn't even begging her to say I'd finished.

The improvement in my stamina is the most remarkable thing and although the programme for W5 looks very scary, I found it less of a struggle than W4 had been.

Yep, once you're going it's often easier to keep going than to stop and start again. For that reason don't take the next two runs lightly. Sometimes people see the walking breaks and think it'll be easy. Don't misunderstand me, if you take it as seriously as today's run you will get through but you'll maybe find you're actually glad when you get to the 25 minute run at the end of the week and the stop/start stuff has gone.

But meantime enjoy this success. For most of us I think, W5 R3 was the point where we really fully believed we could complete this. After the next two runs are out of the way, every future run will be just like today's but gradually getting a little bit longer. You know you can do this :)

Thanks. Yes I felt so triumphant. Was walking out of the gym with a huge smile on my (very red and sweaty) face.

That’s great, W5R3 is a real milestone in the programme. Well done and keep going!

Just done W5R3 and was very apprehensive beforehand and even 5 mins in. Then got to 10 mins and realised it was longest stretch of running to date and maybe I could actually do 20. In fact after the halfway point I was determined I’d do it. And I did. And so will you!

I’m doing my W5R3 Friday. Feel similar, eg not run even eight mins straight in my adult life! You’ve motivated me for Friday!

Me too- I’m doing w5r3 on Friday too. I’m so worried it’ll be too much and will break my confidence

No we can do this. Stay positive and let me know how you get on!

I was so scared about W5 run 2 and the 8 minute run that I repeated W5R1 first. It's about trusting yourself and the programme - and going very slowly!

It's a great feeling to do that bit more than you thought you could. Banish the doubts and go for it.

Good luck. Hope you don't get caught in a thunderstorm. It's getting going here just now.
